Saw a thread from 2004 about tapping for a fuel pressure gauge by drilling a hole in the fuel rail.. is there a better way to do this by any chance?

i need to tap a sender NPT 1/8"

thanks in advance guys

+3. That's the only way I would do a FP gauge as well. Tapping into a stock part that COULD leak is just going to end bad in my mind. Just make sure you get one that has a 1:1 raising ratio.

you could also get a B&M fuel pressure gauge kit. I think JNZtuning.com has them. It is a simple gauge that goes ona fitting that goes between the top of your fuel filter and the hose to your fuel rail

I'm thinking he wants to check fuel pressure maybe because he's having some problems with the way the car is running and not for performance... just my guess since he hasn't responded since his question.

I've had consistant problems with the same thing, now that it's fixed id rather not have a logger in the car all the time haha but thanks for all the imput, ill ###### end up with the afpr upgrade.

If you're planning on upgrading your FPR or filter or stock fuel lines, you can (as mentioned) put the sender in the port provided on the AFPR. But since you'd be replacing all the lines and having to attach the AN fittings to that new fuel line, you can add a fitting anywhere you want and put the sender wherever you want to. Some put it between the filter and rail, but that's "upwind" of the pressure drops across the injetors. I've thought about keeping the normal under-hood gauge directly on the AFPR, but adding a tee and sender between the rail and AFPR so I can run an electrical fuel pressure gauge in the cabin.

The link below mentions the sender plumbing:
SteveTek Labs Research: High Flow Fuel Delivery System

And here's what I'm getting ready to buy:
STM SENDING UNIT TO FUEL RAIL KIT | 90-99 DSM
and
STM FPR -6AN FUEL RETURN KIT - SHADOW SERIES | 90-99 DSM

So you plan on doing what's described in that link to keep the stock fuel pressure sender in that location and then putting an electric fuel pressure gauge on one of the ports of the AFPR? This is a damn good idea. I will probably do the same since I've been wanting to redo my fuel setup. And I have that vent gauge mount from MachV so I'll put an AEM one there. Thanks for the idea kenamond.
