my gas milage isnt that bad i get about 22mpg city, and last time i checked i got 24hwy but that was going 80-90MPH for 300 miles. i am wondering what mods can i do to get better gas milage then i presently have.

the mods i have on my car is

JDM Engine
1G CAS

i have a EVO III Intake manifold but i have not installed it, i dont know if that will help with gas milage.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for mods that will help with this because gas is starting to go up again and we are stuck with premium gas :banghead:

always drive downhill in neutral.
Coasting down is better for fuel conservation and not illegal in places where coasting IS illegal. ;) Don't think so? Watch your wideband circle stoich as you coast in neutral, then watch it under deceleration. :D

my solution, ride your bicycle.

I have noticed that in some cases, those who have larger turbos with longer lag time are able to obtain slightly better gas mileage IF they never use the larger turbo. The increased lag time might help when you are slowly accelerating and keeping you out of the boost range. I remember a thread a while back that was all driving tips on how to save gas mileage. I can't seem to find it hmmm.........

Well anyways... pretty much everything except not driving the car that has been said here is about most of your options without loosing any power.

i dunno wherer you read that octane boosters dont help your gas milage lacroixdp. The higher the octange the cleaner and more efffient it burns, yes i agree that most octane boosters barily help but if you read on the bottles and do research youll find boosters that actually help, yea they cost a lil bit more than the generic brands but they cost more for a reason, beacause they work. The more effiecent and the moe that fuel burns = better fuel economy.

Boosters do not help with mileage, period. This goes even more so for a car that runs on 87 octane. You gain absolutely no benefits by raising the octane rating on those cars. Exxon was sued by the FTC several years ago for falsely advertising that higher octane helped with gas mileage. They had to hand out pamphlets for years confirming that higher octane does not help with fuel mileage.

Exxon's TV spots will appear in Orlando - Orlando Business Journal:

In cars like ours, people raise the octane to prevent detonation and raise the knock index of the fuel, not to increase gas mileage. In fact, lower octane petrol has more BTU/Gallon than higher octane petrol.

Fuel octane ratings RON, MON, AKI RdON and PON explanation and compared.

Higher octane gas provides a slower moving flame front. You can lose power if you aren't correctly tuned for it.

id say the best way to get the best mileage would be get a tune so your runing an efficent fuel map and stay in vaccum i usually shift at about 2750RPM and get mid to high 20's for mileage

I'v heard many times that underinflated tires are one of the biggest causes of bad fuel mileage. Dirty air filter too. I'v never really kept track of my mileage around town but I kept track of every tank on a recent trip from Boston to Miami and averaged 28 mpg for most of it. That was with three people in the car and the windows and sunroof open the entire way so I was pretty happy with that.

They say tires can affect gas mileage up to something like 2%, which is less than 1mpg. Also with the air filter, I read something in a magazine about a shop that basically dumped their air filter in mud and tested it against a clean one, same car, same conditions, same test. Affected gas mileage under 1%.

Now whether or not this is true idk, but it does in fact show that the difference made from doing these things is very small.

Actually tires effect more then that. Modified magazine posted in Mays? issue on this very topic, they ended up saying the best way of increasing MPG is your right foot, but they tested all of these methods. Tires ended up being one of the highest reasons for poor mileage. I have the magazine somewhere, I'll go hunt for it.
