my gas milage isnt that bad i get about 22mpg city, and last time i checked i got 24hwy but that was going 80-90MPH for 300 miles. i am wondering what mods can i do to get better gas milage then i presently have.

the mods i have on my car is

JDM Engine
1G CAS

i have a EVO III Intake manifold but i have not installed it, i dont know if that will help with gas milage.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for mods that will help with this because gas is starting to go up again and we are stuck with premium gas :banghead:

why do people think that JDM is so great?

You could get a wideband and ECMlink so you can lean the car out. cruise control is a great thing too.

Look at my mods and I get roughly 250-280 a tank combined. Not bad for a fast car with alot of mods.

i get about 270 - 300 a tank trying not to go under the 1/4 mark. but i have heard of some people going over 30MPG with their dsm.

i have tryed driving without boost and it is very difficult, not to mention not that much fun.

The JDM engine is a little faster then my old stock engine, but the only reason i got it was because my old engine blew and this was the cheapest engine i could find with the lowest miles. it had onl7 28,000 on it. No sludge or anything in the engine.

free flowing exhaust, octane boosters actually do help! and also the ZMaxx oil and fuel treatment, yea its a lil exspensive but when i used it i got an extra 40 miles per tank of fuel. i usually get around 240-250 per tank and i got 290-300 w/ the ZMaxx and octane booster. Ive found that the NOS and Lucus octane boosters work the best and they are cat and o2 sensor safe!! E3 spark plugs help out with fuel also. Seen a 3-4mpg difference with these plugs over conventional plugs. A good set of wires wont hurt either.

anything that makes your engine run more efficiently such as intake, exhaust, good spark plugs and wires and no sludge build up in your engine. Injector cleaners help too.

I'm not saying your lying but...

FTC Sues Speedway Motorsports and Oil-Chem Subsidiary

Maybe you just think you are? That's a government website and there is a lawsuit against the companies false claims. It has been proven that it causes more harm then good. Just my $.02 though.

Lol yeah most people don't. My family owns a shop so my Dad and Uncle are always telling me about these "snake oils".

I have heard some great things about the NOS octane booster though, I think I read a thread on here actually about it.

Clean your filter, and maf. Alot of times the K&N filter oil will get sucked up into the maf and gunk it up alittle. I noticed a little better mileage after this was done.

Are you kidding me here? Oil additives and octane boosters to improve your gas mileage? Oil additives are in almost all cases non-beneficial, and in some cases harmful to your vehicle. Go read bobistheoilguy.com. Store bought octane boosters is about as useless as you can get. Most of those 'octane booster' bottles raise your octane less than 1/10th of a point. If you want store-bought chemicals to raise your octane, you're going to be buying Toluene and Xylene by the gallon. Higher octane does not equal better mileage regardless. Save your money, and your engine, and do not waste time with oil additives and octane boosters. If you are serious about better gas mileage, replace your fuel cap, O2 sensor, spark plugs & wires, and your air filter, properly inflate your tires - and stay off the gas.

tire pressure, avoid idling, remove AC, weight reduction, a free flowing exhaust, free flowing intake, running constantly in closed loop with a wideband, a functioning evap system. Light wheels. I think driving with the windows closed helps too. Try not to accelerate any faster than needed. higher compression. Drive in cool weather.
drive in vacuum. they don't call them economy gauges for nothing. remove BS shafts.

just easy with the right foot

and 22 mpg is what our cars are rated anyway...

22 city/28 hwy mpg for turbos
23 city/31 hwy mpg for non-turbos...

i get about 20 city and 29 hwy @ 65 mph ....

if you want gas mileage buy a prius. ;)
haha

as for the dsm, thats probably about as good as its gonna get.
i get worse then that, ill be lucky if i get 18-19 mpg combined.

but... i also have a heavy foot.
haha

Changing your driving style is your best bet. If you drive in places you know well drive so that you time your passing intersections with the street light sequence, the less you have to slow down the less you have to accelerate, avoid hills, and stay at 65mph on the freeway, anything higher and you're fighting exponentially higher amounts of wind resistance. :thumb:

Get a tuning system in which you can turn off closed loop or modify it so that your cruising AF ratio is 15.3:1 or 15.4:1. This will give you the best gas mileage but adversely affect your emissions. It also will not hurt power because you will be hitting this AF ratio only in cruise (if you have any idea how to tune) and a much better AF ratio for power in your higher load/rpm cells.

Ecmlink, DSmap, evo8 ecu, or custom chips can do this.

Were those people N/T guys? Lean your boat out some :)

I can get 33mpg highway :D I just have to drive 65mph and keep out of boost. I never went into boost that whole time. I average about 23mpg day to day (AWD, Turbo, and Automatic) and I don't drive lightly. More "spirited". :p Normally, I'll get 26-28mpg highway.

For best gas mileage:
1. Correct Spark Plugs / Wires - Those fancy ones often cause detonation at higher boost levels. Detonation = knock which reduces timing, robbing you of power.
2. Clean Air Filter - Less pumping losses.
3. Correct Tire Pressure - Even with 215/50/r17 tires, my ride isn't bad with the maximum tire pressure for my tire. Adjust it when you get to the track.
4. Good o2 Sensor - Most of our cars are 10 - 20 years old. That front o2 sensor doesn't last forever. They can go "lame" and not cycle correctly, but still not trip a CEL. Get a logger and make sure it's functioning properly.
5. Keep your ERG setup - It helps gas mileage.
6. Clean out your hatch. If yours gets like mine, it can get quite cluttered. That extra weight takes energy to move around.

But the most effective mod is weight reduction to your right foot. :D
