What's the best oil filter and synthetic oil to use for 1G Talon Turbo?

Thanks

Meech

Match your oil weights to your temperature and pressure requirements people.. you want the thinnest possible cold weight that meets your needs. Don't just jump to a 20w50 unless you have to.

This has to be one of the most discussed but least understood subjects in any car/bike/boat community.. yet people take to it like religion or a sports team.

Take a moment to read through this:

I'm not saying this is the definitive statement on the matter but for the layman's consumption, it's one of the best.

My application behaves "best" with a hot weight between 30-40, with the way I currently use the car and with my oil cooler deleted for testing. Rotella T6 now comes in 0w40, which I'm trying out currently. I've tried 20w50 twice in this motor, and it was just overkill, pressures were too high across the board and never did I get the temps up high enough to justify the excessive pressure.

Different oils (weight/contents) are designed to perform at different temperatures. Your oil can be too cold as well as too hot.

Whats considered "too hot" can be surprisingly high, especially when we're talking about the newer Group 4 PAOs.

Consider the newer T6 5w40 (per the Feb 2014 update/MSDS) even passed a new Euro High Temp/Shear test for diesels, which is conducted at ~300F (150C).

You typically want automotive engine oil of any weight operating at over 212F, to boil off water that condenses in the crankcase, among other reasons.

TL; DR - measure your pressure/temp, in several spots ideally. It's not hard.

What are the advantages of running 20w50? Should I be running it on a DD?
Thicker oil can offer a little more cushion on bearing/journal surfaces. That and my OFH was ported to give a perfect oil pressure range with heavier oil. It's also worth noting that my car was only ever ran in a warm climate.

Assuming that the original posters modification's are close to stock (along with taking his clement into consideration), I'd suggest 10w 30 Valvoline Racing Synthetic (VR1 Motor Oil.
http://www.valvoline.com/products/consumer-products/motor-oil/racing-motor-oil/

Its budget friendly and has a high Zinc content. As for oil filter's stick with oem, bosch or wix.

I use Valvoline 20w50 non synthetic for 3 reason's:
1: Its budget friendly
2: You can get it off the shelf at O'reilly when ever you need it.
3: It fits my application
