just woundering i want to keep my car on the streets so what would be the best 16g? small, evo3, or big?

i know i have no mods i just am tryin to plan out my upgrade path befor starting to do more to it.

If it was me I would just go 68HTA (Evo III machined out to fit bigger compressor wheel.) and be done with it. Same spool as an Evo III, but 47 lbs/min of flow.
I'll buy one of these when / if I ever see a log of it actually making 47 lb/min.

Just because the compressor wheel can make 47lb/min doesn't mean the TD05H turbine will flow that much. A fine example of this is the PTE SCM6031E; a 60-1 compressor that is limited to 50-trim airflow numbers due to a restrictive turbine housing and wheel combination.

^^^^Absolutely. . . Compressor numbers are for show. And we don't want just Curt Brown dyno numbers (he's the best and a staple of this community). Of course he makes the most with whatever is at his disposal. Where's the airflow numbers varifying that the rest of us have use of 47lb/min?

The mork, when I try the link a new window pops up with the gif in it. Here is the directl ink in text: stealth316.com/images/td05hr-16g6-raw.gif

Here is where the gif is: Stealth 316 - Turbo Upgrade Guide. It is the 4th turbo from the bottem in the table.

The biggest difference between all the turbos mentioned is hot weather performance on pump gas. This situation is what weeds out the turbos. The EVO3 16g is still bloody fast, responsive, and torquey even in hot, sticky 100*F/100% humidity conditions on 93 octane. I don't have a technical explanation for it, just an observation I've noted time and again. There is a damned good reason MHI upgraded the compressor.

The EVO3's lower performance limit in these conditions is like the upper performance limit of the small 16g & T28 on race gas in sub-freezing conditions. All for maybe 100-200 rpm worth of spool difference. You have to look at it from a day-in and day-out performance consistency standpoint, the other turbos can't compete with the EVO3 16g in this respect. I actually look forward to beating on the car in +100*F temps in the summer, when previously I'd hide out until evening.

Same analogy when I switched to DSMLink from the stock ECU, the performance just got "dead" consistent, that's how the EVO3 16g feels over the other turbos. And in the end, your much faster and happier when all performance parameters are locked down, under control, and repeatable.

I'm currently running an evo3 at 27 psi, on e-85. For the price nothing even comes close to the performance.

Id have to disagree. :)

I don't think there's many full weight evo3 16g cars with stock manifolds that can do this. And there's onlyone or two evo3 16g cars that ever did something like this. Everyone else is an easy 75whp lower. And they cost about the same to bolton completely after lines and housing. . . Before you say 'well since you're talking used, I can get a used evo3 16g for $300'. I bought my h1c for $100 and the only real difference is that it has a compressor that flows as much as a 20g instead of one above that flows as much as an fp3052. I invested $400 total.

But regardless, the evo3 16g is by far the most potent of the 16g turbos built. And is very sleeper for a 1g and the easiest to install of the bolton turbos for a 1g.

Thanks for all the info looks like when the time comes ill be getting a e3 16g =] i dont want to make a new thread for this other question how much hp can a 2g mas take i love the look and dont want to vent my bov im looking for 350-400hp range in the end

I paid $65 for a real evo3, evo gt mani, and evo 3 o2 housing. Everone isn't that lucky. Its not even close to the performance i got out of my hx40, but i had about $600 in that setup, still an excellent low cost setup. I'm thinking when i'm done playing around with this setup i'll give a hx35 a try on e-85.

For the street just to have some fun I would say the small 16g. You will have fun with that bottom end boost. On the street with a big 16g you arent always gonna have open road to really push that 16g especially if you have no other mods done to get it spooling faster.

Mileage won't be bearly different. Your spool speed difference is 2-300rpms. And you always come in boost when you want it and not when you don't. it's called self control ;)

Oh definately NOT saying your car aint a blast with the evo3 16g. I don't know if I'd mess with an hx35 and e85 when you're having so much fun w/ the 16g. You're at transmission breakage level as is probably. e3 16g and e85 is just a beautiful thing.

oh well yeah then that wont bother me none im not gunna notice 2-300 rpm =P thanks for info yeah tranny rebuilds comeing up i think im just gunna have it all rebuilt axles? if i can (need to get 4bolt rear end) tranny, diff, transfercase, just so i know its all ok if something cant be rebuilt then w/e =]

2g MAF good for over 50 lb/min without dropping counts. Not much of a restriction really.
