I am running a ported 14b and will be for awhile. I want to run a full 3 inch if possible. What o2 housing shuld I run? I dont want it to be too loud but want max flow. What would you do? I can weld, I dont have a bender though. Can I run like a 3 chamber magnalow or borla muffler? Any buildup Ideas?

The best exhausts are either the Thermal R&D exhaust, or the buschur racing straight through with the bullet muffler but that is pretty ridiculous. If I was you, I'd get the custom 3" piping done and run a Vibrant muffler.

Vibrant huh? is that a pretty quiet muffler? I know its not going to be super queit. I just dont want to sound like all the dumb overloud hondas on the road. What is the biggest o2 housing I can run on my 14b?

I would stick with a stock o2 housing since it matches the turbine outlet of a 14b and maybe port the outlet to whatever the downpipe starts out as(most are 2.5 expanding to 3").

If you want to quiet it down a touch, pick up a 3" vibrant straight through oval resonator, even moreso if you aren't going to run a cat.

I had that problem on my first DSM, I had a 96 gst with a Apexi N1 catback and I had to get it welded up twice because it kept rusting through.. And I don't even live in a place with snow, but I do live 15 minutes from the beach so who knows.

HAHAHA SAME PROBLEM... even thos they do rustout on the back of the muffler... its a pretty good setup in my opinion...! sounds really nice... yet has a nice low deep sound...!!! and not loud

on my turbo cars I've always ran catless with a straight through muffler of sorts and enjoyed hearing the turbo sputter spool through it. The turbo it's self absorbs some of that noise also. But, comparing it to a honda and typically the nasty sounding ones are n/a is not fare. Turbo exhaust just has a different better sound anyway. If you want get the 3" exhaust and run a silencer if you want it quiet.

I thought the stutter was a bad thing. IE it's the sound of compressor stall, which beats on the turbo's bearings. Or have I heard wrong?

Ok. What downpipe. I am assuming I need a downpipe that matches my o2 housing. Whats the point of running a full 3inch if I am bottlenecked at the o2 housing?

Because you're not bottle necked at the O2 housing. When the exhaust going through your turbo and into the exhaust, they are still VERY hot. and the hotter gasses move at greater velocity than the exhaust further back.

Think of steam coming out of a Tea Kettle when it's boiling water. The steam coming out of the narrow bit is moving Very fast. It has greater velocity. By keeping the factory O2 housing with the factory turbo, You maintain that velocity.

When the gasses start to cool and slow down, you need more space to move the same amount. This is where the 3" exhaust comes into play. That's why a Cat back helps spool up, and Turbo back helps a lot with the factory turbo.

You can actually HURT your spool up and performance if you go HUGE right off the tiny turbo, because without porting, the gasses will have a huge step from a narrow passage to the huge exhaust, and cauge turbulance, which would slow any gasses coming in after it. It's the same reason why putting 3" exhaust on a Non Turbo motor hurts performance. At different RPMs, the gasses act a bit differently.

But hell, what do I know? I'm just an Airplane Mechanic.

I'm just going to list what I have because I like it and how it sounds. It's quiet while cruising and doesn't get loud unless I'm hard on the gas.

eBay tubular o2 housing
Custom 3" downpipe
3" high flow cat
Custom 3" cat back
Dynomax 3" in / 3" out muffler
All slip fit with exhaust band clamps (very nice, or go v-band)

While I'm currently running a SS O2 sensor housing (stock size) I have a 3" RRE downpipe and Espelir GT500 exhaust system (don't know if they even make one for a 1G though) I also run a high flow cat (CA smog) but I thought it would be fairly loud, but no. Those NA Hondas can SCREAM, but the DSM is quiet in comparison, more of a deep rumble almost subie-ish. Now you're not gonna run a cat so it'll be louder for sure but these cars sound great, not like a buzzy NA 1.6 :D

Hey guys I need a lot of help... im so confused. I live in PA so I have to have annual emissions testing done every year. So my question is how do I make a full 3" exhaust legal? most of the systems I see use a test pipe but I can't do that. I wanted to use a megan racing o2 housing, megan racing 3" DP, and a megan racing 3" cat back system. But it says that I need a 3" cat for the cat back system and I can not find one anywhere. any ideas?

Im running:
fp manifold
2g o2 housing
3in down pipe
apexi cat back

I plan to cut weld on a vibrant muffler because my muffler is rusting out. But I have had it on the car for 7 years. Its not too loud really at cruise loudest at idle if I say so.

Ok thanks guys! I never thought about welding in a universal cat LOL stupid me haha.

Oh yea I forgot to ask, but what o2 housing would be good for the 16g and a megan racing down pipe?

There's a lot that can make something the best. One exhaust could be the best at fitment and install. One exhaust could have the best design with bends. One exhaust could be the best in keeping flow at low volumes. One exhaust could be the best at being loud if you like that. One exhaust could be the best value. There are tons of others I could list.

Personally, I would just drop off my car at a reputable local exhaust shop and let them build one for cheap over the course of a few days.
