So i've been prepping some doors for refinishing, and I'm curious what types of plastics are used for the exterior moldings. (Maybe for making some new ones.)

First part is a black belt molding from my '90 Laser. Clearly marked as PVC. Middle photo shows the back of the anti-rock trim that was on the bottom edge of the door on a '91 Eclipse. That yellowish plastic is marked PUR, which I reckon is the polyurethane that we see used for front and rear bumper covers. The third photo is the puzzle. It's the belt molding from that same Eclipse, and was cracked in multiple places before i started removal. It crumbles to bits, is gray and shiny where the fractures & crumbles happen, and does not appear to have had any ID marks at all on the back side. Any thoughts?

You’re correct on the first two. The third is also PVC.

Additionally, You can purchase replicated side moldings in fiberglass or carbon fiber from carbonetics, they have a pretty long wait time so it requires some patience when it comes to that point in your build.

Hm, now THAT sounds like a market opportunity. :)
If you figure out how to do with just as good quality as they do, and get better customer service than Carbonetics, I'm decently sure you'd be able to overtake them in the space.
Its bordering on crazy how many bad experiences people have with Sergio, just for the customer service alone. Shame since his quality control is usually up there with much bigger and higher end companies.
(Obviously people have had good experiences with him but it seems to be that the negative ones are a lot easier to find)

Because he caters to the bigger names and clients and gives them priority. He doesn't GAF about the small time guy only paying $1k when someone waves $30k in his face. The big time buyers don't GAF about the little people either because hey, I got mine in a timely matter, sucks for you peon is their attitude.

So yeah. That's how he can afford to piss everyone off. Until his big name customers go somewhere else.

Wow, @CrackedDSM, that stuff is spendy! Seems to me that a CAST polymer part would be a ton easier to fabricate, sell at a lower price, and satisfy a different section of the market. I'm new to this neighborhood, but sure looks like CF parts are mostly bling rather than practicalities. Hm, hm, hm. Anybody wanting some simple cast belt rail parts, correct shape and weight as the originals? Please raise your hand. (And I'm wondering if black 1Ga parts are the same shape as the painted 1Gb-and-later parts. Lookin' at you, @DreamChaser7. )

Photo here shows what the driver side of my 1Ga Eclipse parts-car looked like before I pulled the door. The PVC belt rail was totally falling apart. (We won't talk about the rust facilitated by the lower aero panel, that's a whole 'nuther subject that I'm SURE is a dead horse around here.

Maybe someone knows someone who works for Magna International and they still have access to the molds or measurements for our original ground effects and mouldings?

Off the topic but brought up

I waited a year for a hood that was delivered crushed by the trucking company. Sergio was quick to reply and rushed me to front of line for a replacement(4 months).

Its a lengthy wait and process but my hood is amazing.

Another high end dsm client of theirs i know said that all of her stuff went to the body shop when she got it so wasnt a big deal.

Just my experience
