After going through 3 traditional paint jobs (2 color matched to the factory black, and 1 flat black) I decided to do something a little different. I saw some trucks and Jeeps with bedliner paint jobs and really liked it, so I started doing some research. I decided to go with Raptor Liner because it was affordable and had great reviews. I enlisted the help of my friend who is a painter at a local body shop, and it took us about 4 hours to prep, tape off, and spray the car. It turned out great. I thought I'd post some pictures up and see what you guys thought.

Looks great! Nice you got it professionally done. I just used rattle can bed liner. I just like how evenly it lays on.

My profile picture isn't up to date LOL

Looks like my cherokee LOL. Mine held up superb but also coated mine to 1/8 or 3/16ths inch thickness LOL. Looks good bro, definitely original.:thumb:

I like it, its not my style but I like.:thumb:

yea man, I was about to post before but I closed the tab, I see this a lot with jeep. My friend XJ is painted like this but its white so it looks camo with parts of it painted bedliner. I did paint my XJs rear bumper in bedliner, awesome look and feel, especially when you are standing on it, great grip.

Looks good man

Thanks guys! I bought two Raptor Liner kits on eBay. With shipping it was around $250, and I spent maybe another $100 for other materials. Each kit comes with 4 bottles of bedliner, 1 bottle of hardener, and a spray gun. You just need a good sized air compressor, and your good to go. To prep the car we used 80 grit paper on sanders, and roughed the heck out of the paint. Then we wiped it down, taped it off, and sprayed it.

Looks freaking awesome. Never would think to do that, only worry would be the weight versus normal paint. Isn't that stuff pretty thick and heavy?

Yea it is definitely thicker than paint, and I would think atleast twice as heavy. If not more. It almost feels like asphalt, so I'm sure it hurts aerodynamics and MPG, but it's not my DD and I'm going for the post apocalyptic look LOL

Looks good! Thumbs up for originality. Can't get any tougher than that! Plus you probably don't have to worry about scratches, door dings, or waxing now. Maybe tire shine spray would help it look more black if you wanted to shine it up sometime.

Yea I definately like the low maintenance and durability aspect of it. I heard it's prone to fading though, so maybe the tire shine will come in handy. I'll test it on the spare hood we practiced on first. It's also paintable, so I was considering spraying it flat black again, but we'll see how it holds up.

Thats different, I was thinking of spraying my car flat black, might look into this now.

i dont know what to vote i do and i dont like it haha, i feel like if i ever need sand paper i know where to come!!! but it takes a new meaning to flat colors,

I like it, but what if you wanted to paint it a different color later on? :hmm: That would be the only factor keeping me from doing that; I would just as much drop that same $350 for some vinyl wrap on ebay, draft a couple buddies and lure them into my garage with candy and beer and just wrap the car: at least it would be removable later down the road.

Any idea how well it will wash off once it gets dirty ? I like the look but very dirty here afraid it might not clean up as well. From low maintenance side I love it though and my paint job not so great any ways. Way think out of the preverbile box ! :hellyeah:

Raptor Liner also comes in a tintable version that you can have any base coat mixed into, and you can add clear coat.

I don't have an exact weight for my car, but it is definately heavier than stock. Along with the bedliner, I have a full interior, Fat Mat sound deadener, and a wooden platform in the trunk. It's basically the anti weight reduction vehicle. Plus I want to add a roof basket with spot lights to complete the post apocalyptic look

I know Raptor Liner could hold a paint if you wanted to change the color. I would assume though the repaint would fill alot of the nooks and crannies, and it would end up just looking like a lumpy paint job. My family has a painting company in D.C., so I'm basing this on what I see when painting porous substrates. They hold a paint great, but lose their texture.

It is very easy to clean. I don't even use any soap. I just powerwash it and use a truck brush. :hellyeah:

The application of the paint looks good, no stripes, doesn't appear to be any bad over-spray from the pictures. But the choice of material its self isn't my taste. It would be nearly impossible to ever restore that car's original appearance, and the value of the car has now tremendously dropped, but the heightened risk of rock chips on the front has now greatly diminished. Haha +1 for the the creative idea and setting out to be different. As long as your happy with the way the car looks then that is all that really matters, not anyone else's opinions.

I used up all the Raptor Liner on the exterior of the car, but later when I was overhauling my suspension, I sprayed the underside and wheel wells with cans of Rustoleum undercoating. I would have rather sprayed them with the bedliner, as the undercoating probably won't hold up as well, but I'm sure it will do fine. Much cheaper too :thumb:

You freaking rock, I'm subscribed and I am so wanting to do something like this to the the bottom half of my car.
