Yesterday I woke up to hear the theft alarm horn beeps from my '95 GS-T. Wife grabbed key, ran out, shut it off. There were signs of a bear having been around -- dogs barking frantically, bird feeder knocked down, one of my RhinoRamps knocked over ... a racoon couldn't have done all that.

We're very rural and know there are bears in the area. The alarm has never been triggered before and people-tampering is very unlikely -- we're really rural.

Theft alarm is triggered by opening hood, trunk or either door after the alarm is set. Everything was still closed tight, there were no signs anything had been opened, no marks on the car ...

Not really a problem but ... how would a large animal set the alarm off?

Is your alarm stock or aftermarket. Some aftermarket alarms can be set off by a strong wind. If I bump my car with my hip the alarm goes off.
Stock alarm as far as I know. That was my first thought too but I looked it up and the stock alarm is only triggered by trying to open something without using a key in a lock.

When I use the switch on the armrest to lock my doors that also sets the alarm. If I use the slide lock at the inside door handle it will lock without the alarm...I found this out the other day when my alarm kept going off at 7:30 in the morning... A pesky squirrel was stashing food in my cowl...My alarm is aftermarket and I don't know how to activate the sensitivity .

My first Spyder had an alarm that could be set off by leaves falling onto the top. I disconnected it quite quickly.

@waltah have you adjusted the rubber bumpers under the hood? Or the trunk, I guess. Those could pretty easily be turned into hair triggers that might set off the alarm with the slightest motion to the car (bear bumping it while walking by).

Ah-ha!

I did test bumping/shaking the car as much as I could by hand but didn't think about 'someone' walking across the hood or trunk so the opposite corner (with switch) pops up enough to trigger.

I will investigate that.
