Ok this is what happened to my car, I was getting the idle setup in Dsmlink and towards the end of the log I heard a bang and the car started vibrating more then normal so I shut it down immediately. I had the lower timing belt cover off already because I was diagnosing a oil leak and realized the front balance shaft sprocket had come off. Bolt backed out and the sprocket went flying. So I decided to tear the car down to the balance shaft belt and reinstall worried about something could have gotten screwed up. After removing the timing belt and the balance shaft belt I try to spin the crank and it moves but it always wants to move back to its original position. So I am thinking bent valves but I figured with bent valves the piston would hit the valve and just stop not keep rotating and then want to go back to the original position. Again this is just spinning the crank nothing else. I took the valve cover off and all the rockers are ok none have came off the lifter or valve, I also rotated the cams and everything felt good. Any way to know a valve is bent without the timing stuff being hooked up and doing a compression test? Thanks for the help.

Look for one lifter that may be sticking out further than the rest. That's a sure sign that a valve is not closing the entire way:
