need to do this to my car one of these days. Shouldve done it today when i was replacing j-pipe and licp with hard wrinkle-coated pieces but didnt even think about it.

For a stock car people should retain the BCS. During knock/detonation not only does the ECU retard ignition timing, if severe enough it will kick back and retard BOOST too to save the motor.
It's a failsafe system no use on removing it on an otherwise stock car. People will see boost levels fluctuate slightly daily because of air temperature, humidity, fuel grade and ignition timing. It's a control device people!

Oh yeah, absolutely no reason to remove bcs for stock boost because it's a failsafe in that if knock sensor detects knock it'll send a signal which actvates bcs to limit boost to 5-7 lbs. But in my case where I'm now running 14-15 lbs on stock car I don't think there is a way to leave bcs in place and achieve that boost level is there? Because if there is I'd like to leave it inline as a failsafe against knock.

I think you're best bet would be doing this Visual Frequently Answered Questions - Home Page and using the BCS for a knock sensor light. When the BCS would be triggered to retard boost you can wire an LED to trigger so you can "see" knock.

You may get away with running a MBC in line with the BCS but I'm not sure I haven't done it just speculation.

Thanks for that info! Had no idea you could do that. Is there any way to wire from the ecu to a guage to see knock counts too? How about timing? I don't have a logger and wasn't really planning on getting one but thinking about getting a/f gauge.

a/f narrowbands are useless light shows. Only a wideband is useful and even at that it's only a O SHIT gauge. Wideband a/f's need to be used while logging to see what's going on with the tune at different throttle loads and rpms.
If you really want to monitor things get a logger cable and a laptop • View topic - USB Logger that guy made me a nice one for cheap.

Knock counts, timing, everything that going in or out of the ECU gets logged.

Taking a look at my 1990 eagle talon tsi, i have the BCS, but it only has one line coming into it... i don't really know what the deal is there... any ideas?

Trace the line to see where it's going. BCS = Waste gate control solenoid valve. The only line you technically need is from the waste gate actuator to the turbocharger j-pipe if you cap the nipple on the air cleaner box. Otherwise, set it up as shown if you do not have an aftermarket boost controller.

Thanks brian, I actually started tracing some lines and i found that the BCS wasn't even plugged in... and you can see by looking at the pics, that the second "stem" on the BCS has been broken off (by previous owner is my guess). The line that went into that second stem had been plugged off and the hole where the second stem should have been is now open. Is this something to worry about/fix? How?

Since your BCS is busted anyway, I'd cap the air box cleaner nipple and run a straight hose from the waste gate actuator to the j-pipe if you don't have an MBC. It's safe and cleans up that area of the bay.

I don't recall if the BCS is a blow-through type, but if it is and one side of it is left open, it will be the source of a vacuum leak. If it's not then that portion is fine as you have it.

The BCS not being even plugged in electrically stays closed, basically in that specific configuration there's no pressure being bled off the wastegate. May as well control the wastegate using the nipple on the j-pipe an eliminate the T as someone said already.
