free mod restricter mods

I saw a 91 Eagle talon TSi yesterday that had one of the tubes on the Boost Control Solenoid Covered up by a piece of rubber. What is that doing... and is that a good thing?

And noticed 0 difference, although i do'nt have a boost gauge yet i didn't notice any diff in power with taking the restrictor out of the solenoid. Still runs the same. I'm guessing the 2g bov is leaking the extra boost out?

LOL ok, yeah i'm ordering a vdo gauge end of week on payday, then intake/boost controller/upper i/c later.

I think upper intercooler pipe with 1g or better bov should be the first or second mod after boost gauge...the day i replaced mine with a dave brode upper with a 1g bov, i popped my lower pipe on the first full boost run...it was very scary but once i got it strapped nice i was definitely amazed at the hidden power just by removing that restriction and not leakin. Best 100 bux i spent on the whip :thumb:

Ok, just got my '92 laser rs turbo awd running again, and its running great. Except one thing. The wastegate won't open, so under heavy throttle the fuel cuts out when the turbo overboosts (at about 5500 rpm ) the fuel cuts off 'cuz the gate won't open ( at least thats what the Mistubishi tech says ). So my question is this: If i do the BCS mod, which may add another psi or two of boost, will this make my fuel cut earlier, or have no effect? And before you ask, I'm not going to get it fixed yet, I just spent a whole bunch of money, I just take it a little easier on the throttle. Thanks for your help.

i cannot express how important it is to get your car running right before you go modding anything...get it fixed....if you dont, kiss your engine goodbye...in short NO

i just bought my first DSM and im starting to mod it i got the K&N and i was wondering Is it ok that i take off the BCS restricter if i dont have a boost gauge , i have read about it and they say its a good thing to do but i just wanna hear what you guys have to say..thanks

I'd get a boost gauge first.

You could end up damaging the BCS. If you create a leak in that system, it's possible to overboost because the wastegate will open more slowly or not open at all.

thanks for the feedback...should i also get a boost controller , while im getting the boost gauge

you can't overboost by pulling the bcs as the plastic bov leaks back to the intake at anything over 12-14 psi. however you can overwork the turbo as it will try to push the additional boost that ends up being bled off.

kind of like the story of Atlas.

He's a 1G. It can overboost. :dsm:

Ok im not gunna remove the restrictor on the BCS , but what about the samller of the two honeycombs in the MAF would that be safe to remove i hear that is good for more air flow..but then again i also thougth removing the restrictor in the BCS would be good to

its all good man, the bcs mod will only raise boost a couple of psi so you should be fine doing that, make sure not to ruin it, and the honeycomb removal should be ok, but when hacking the maf, do it in steps, dont go all out in one step: remove the honey comb lower first, then if its ok, back up the screw, then if you have issues with fuel cut, you can start porting it out.
but yes, a boost gauge and logger are great first "mods" even though they won't give you anything at first.

sorry, i misread the 3 as an 8... late night...

on a 2g yuo don't do it before changing the bov, on a 1g its pretty safe, on a 2g after changing the bov its safe IMO

You could also remove the silencer behind the maf. When to take the honeycomb out you'll see it, it's white paper in a metal housing. It's a pita to get it out though. The bcs mod should give you an extra 2-3 psi. It's a good mod for now until you gat an mbc.

I went to vfaq and there page is down for the bcs removal. Can someone tell me where the restrictor is located exactly for a 1g turbo.

It's in the boost solenoid. Trace the vac line back from the turbo, pull the line off the solenoid and inside the fitting you'll see a inner piece of plastic. A drywall screw works good for getting it out.

Ok just to make sure im doing this right, I have two more questions. Ok in the first picture circled in green, is the color difference the resrictor itself? And in the second picture also circled in green, is this the hole that the restrictor is in? Thanks for the help. :D
