free mod restricter mods

I saw a 91 Eagle talon TSi yesterday that had one of the tubes on the Boost Control Solenoid Covered up by a piece of rubber. What is that doing... and is that a good thing?

As of now, since you don't have a boost guage, you can still safely do the BCS mod. It will only add 1-2lbs of boost. Without an upgraded BOV, you won't be able to run more than that anyway.

Id first get a boost guage, then remove the bcs restrictor and see ware you are at with boost then like mentioned above get an upgraded BOV and see where you are at if your still under 15-16PSI you could add a MBC but only goto 15-16psi until you are able to tune the fuel and ungrade the exhauts to 3". Good luck.

Cool thanks for all the replies.

I plan on getting a boost gauge as soon as I return from my deployment. Right now I'm just trying to plan out a budget and what all I'm going to do. When I get back First thing I need to do is get my car up and running again. Then I ll do a tune up and make sure everything is working fine. Then get a decent boost gauge so I can tell where I'm at on boost... hopefully the normal stock level.

I have just a quick question. Does anyone have a pic of the bcs restrictor removed? When I took mine out I think that it broke in half and half of it is still in there. I did not get any increase in boost and I have a autometer gauge. I am basically wanting to know how long the little black tube is that comes out. My psi is 11 all the time and every once in awhile it will build to 13 then go down to 11 and hold.

The removal of the restrictor only gives you 1-2 psi, and not any noticeable increase in power. I wouldn't worry about anything until you get an mbc and decent bov and can really turn the boost up. However, your symptom of it sometimes building to 13 and dropping to 11 maybe that of boost leak. When I did this mod I had ~12psi.

just take off that whole peice of hose that the restrictor was in.its just a tube in a tube is all.you could just leave off that whole hose, works just the same, thats what i did and boost is 12 psi.(my mbc is in the mail though,LOL)

ok well i just did it.. Was easier that i thought it would be it took me about 15mins. Have to go take a ride to see if i can feel and difference

You may or may not feel it. You have to remember that you are only increasing your boost by a couple of PSI. Now depending on your other mods you could see an increase of up to 20hp. Now that is not really something most butt dynos will see but it will show up on the clocks. Also this mod is free and you are gaining about the same amount of hp as someone in a NA car putting a 1## cold air intake system.

Ok, so I've picked through threads and understand the concepts of what the mod is all about and even how to do it... what I'm not exactly sure of, is WTH was done to my BCS by the previous owner...

the electrical connection is/has been unplugged the whole time, pieces are broken and loosely stuck together... i dunno what happened to it, if it's worth fixing, or if i should yank it completely until I add a boost gauge and hook up my MBC.

I didn't have an aftermarket boost gauge before the BCS mod, but afterward (and after all of my first round of mods) I was getting 11psi after the BCS mod. Since I changed other things, I can't say whether or not I would've noticed a difference if that was all I changed.

In other words, your results may vary. It's so easy to do, though, so you should quit asking about hp numbers and just go and do it ;).

Isn't everyone supposed to read the rules and articles and search?:

This is like DSM 101.

Next I expect to see someone ask if they've ever swapped their turbo for a bigger one.

What does vfaq.com mean anyway?

Come on guys! You guys seem to be more than the typical "I want my car to go wicked fast cool dope ass shiznit, what mods should I do?!" If you are going to learn how to do things to your car, learn how to use this site first and your life will be a LOT easier.

its amazing how a little piece of plastic can hold back so much power...I bet we could find a million of these free mods and have a 300hp freak of nature :p

I done a search but didn't find what i was looking for. I was wondering if i did the BCS mod, would my stock BOV be able to handle the extra boost? I've read where the stock BOV can't handle anything over stock boost. And to those who have done it, is their a noticable difference in power or am i just wasting my time? thanks,

Jordan

when i did mine way back in early 2003 when all my car had was intake and boost gauge. My boost went from 13 PSI to 14PSI. THe stock BOV held it till 5500ish then it fell off to 11PSI. Honestly you are better off getting a $50 Hallman manual boost controller and just putting it to 15PSI.

Most 2g BOV's will start to leak after 12psi or so. Some leak sooner. You could probably get away with doing the BCS restrictor removal, but upgrading your BOV to a 1g unit or other recirculating aftermarket valve would probably net you the same amount of performance increase, not to mention set you up for any future mods you plan on doing. But since the BCS mod is free, you could try it and see if it increases your boost at all.

Do a boost leak test before you change anything, though, just to make sure that you're not leaking in places other than the BOV.

The BCS mod is so easy that you *should* do it. Get your hands dirty lifting the coolant overflow tank out, taking that one nut off the BCS and removing the vac lines, thread a sheet metal screw into the restrictor in the BCS, pull it out, put the vac lines back on, screw the BCS back to the frame rail, and reinstall the coolant overflow tank. The first time might take you 15 minutes, and if you had to do it again, it'd take you 5 minutes.

It may not help, and it might buy you 10+hp, but it'll get you under the hood wrenching on your car which is 90% of the battle.:thumb:

I agree with the intake tube mod, I did it first to my GSX at the time I installed my K&N.

The BCS did not seem to help at all, some guys even claim to get a CEL after deleting it. Get a boost controller (manual or electronic) so you can set the boost yourself and make it stay consistent at that setpoint.

Either the BCS mod or a $50 MBC will do. One is free, and the other will insure that you can up the boost a bit, but both require you to get your hands dirty ;).

The boost falling off at 5500rpms isn't a problem on the stock T25 because that is when the turbo becomes less effecient anyway. This is a FREE mod that SHOULD be done just because of the fact that it is FREE. If you don't like it just put that little piece back in later, gonna be hard to do but hell its free and you're GOING to change to atleast a mbc later anyway.

Heres a weird question someone can answer for me since all the pics I search for I still cant tell 100%. In the 1g there are 2 vac lines that come off the BCS and I want to make sure I didnt get them mixed up after I took out the restrictor. The nipple that points at the lights gets the line that goes to the wastegate T and the nipple that points towards the engine get the line that goes to the aircan is what I thought. Anyone confirm for me please so I can have piece of mind LOL, thanks guys..:laser:
