balance shaft came apart during break in

so i finally put my motor together after months of saving money and i drove the car for 4 days. put 148 miles on it and went to change the oil and notice it started ticking almost like a lifter. i posted a thread a week or so ago about help finding the ticking noise and found out it was the BS ticking! so yesterday i lifted it up and dropped pan to to start install and after removing it i heard a metal clunk?!?!?!?! there one of the BS bearing twisted and magled at the bottom of the pan with a handful of smooth bits of metal everywhere at the bottom of the pan. FML i checked the shaft itself and it was very loose obviously i know the bearing wasnt in it but it chewed the inside walls of were the shaft rests and knicked different spots on the crank and bottom of the pistons therefore destroying the block. so my questions are as follows :

how did that happen and or what would cause it to do that! and i am now looking for a new 7 bolt block if anyone knows where one is ill pay shipping!!! and info would help thanks!

Why do you wanna stay 7 bolt and why didnt you delete the balance shafts

Do you have pictures of the damage? There is no way to diagnose what caused it without seeing it before tear-down to assess it. If the damage is not too major you can probably have the crankshaft re-balanced and eliminate the balance shafts. What damage happened to the pistons as well? I would suspect a bearing clearance or mis-install issue if I had to throw something out there.

The front balance shaft (towards front of car) is fed oil via that bearing. If the bearing was replaced, and the oil holes weren't properly aligned upon install then that would be your problem.

How was your oil pressure?

The engine should come out and be fully disassembled and cleaned of all metal flake.

Depending on which Bal shaft spun the bearing, you may be ok with your block.

Post up some pics of the damage and suggestions will be made.

Im goin to post pics tomorrow the bearing is literally twisted in half there is metal shaving but no sign of any other damage to the i internals. Thru machine shop assembled that part of the motor there thru one who got the parts for me. i just bought the bse to put in and on the way to the shop it started ticking. so that's when i pulled the pan. and th bearing does not have any holes in it o noticed that with the new one that came with the bse bearings do have holes. if that's the case hen i am bringing that to there attention so they can fix there fu** up!!!!

There isn't really a definition for when the BS goes out. and when they do what really happens. this is got to be the worst case i have ever seen by far. I know people that drain it and install bse and there good to go so once everything is starting to come out i can take pics and post them or just make a video cause the computer is action g weird and won't let me post picks!!!

Damn, bummer of a thread. Its making my decision to delete the rear BS even easier. Its on my list.
Though the problem was assembly in this case, ive not heard of many or any at all for that matter, nearly grenading like yours. Most def a bad balance shaft install. Sorry to hear. Please do post pics, everyone loves engine carnage. Sucks being on the other end. I been there bud. 300 miles after a shop put mine together rod knock....They didnt surface the crank properly or it was too far out of spec to re use. Cost me a lot of time and money. I dont think i would ever trust another local shop with a 4g engine again. JAM will be getting my hard earned money next time around.

So does anyone know if they make oversized balance shaft bearings i am goin to find out today if it needs it or not before i start buying new parts again

You are trying to make this harder than what it needs to be.

Post up pics of the damage.

Or tell us what bearing spun, there is only 3 to deal with.

If it is the rear BS bearing, once it is out, all you need is a stubby shaft.

If it is one of the front BS bearings, timing belt side or mid block if the bearing bore is totally spun out there is still a way to plug the oil port, there is a way to do it, it is just a tad of a PITA tho.

I bought the kit with the 2 bearings with holes in them and the stub but isn't that for the exhaust side of the motor! and if so then do you know were I can buy the opposite side just the shaft or do I have to buy the bigger kit with the actual shaft???

That is the rear BS bearing, NO oil port to block. That bearing gets oiled from the BS itself.

All you need to do is make sure the front 2 BS bearings get flipped so they block the the oil feed ports. Then install the grooved stubby shaft in the front case/ oil pump and you are golden.

No need for a block, no need for an over sized bearing.

You are getting out easy!

the bearing came out of the block and the BS wore out the inside where the actual shaft goes! so thats why i think i need a new block! the new bearing wont fit in it its too ate up!!! fml

ok so everything is running smooth. i removed the rear BS and took the belt off the front and rotated the bearings just incase. the motor is running perfect bro. bogus..... your a life saver thanks for helping me on this. quick question, i noticed my oil pressure is alittle high? for instance, cruising at 2500 in 5th or 3000 in 4th its at 70-80 pounds... is that normal???? before it was ranging from 50-60 when cruising but i didnt know if it was because there is parts removed that it would spike alittle higher????

Yes, a BSE will cause a higher oil pressure. you may need to pull the OFH and port it a touch.

But you are not too bad off.
