Alright, so I went to go look at a car today.

It started up fine and ran well, however, the exhaust is leaking blue smoke. Also, there is oil visible on the turbo when you look at it from the engine bay. The car smokes slightly during idle and smokes more when given throttle. Because it smokes at idle does that mean the problem is not the turbo seals, or will it smoke at all times if the leak is bad enough?

I wasnt going to think the problem was in the turbo seals until I saw the turbo with oil on it. Thanks a lot-

well i know my turbo seals are bad and i need a new turbo , it smokes when i first start it up then stops. Then it smokes a cloud under boost. Im constantly checking my oil everytime i get out the car and keeping a quart with me under the hood to monitor the oil levels to make sure I dont run dry. Im getting a new turbo soon, if this is your problem i suggest you do the same, and might as well upgrade while your at it.

Oh it could also be your valve stems or sometihng like that ive heard of that can loose oil, and check your compression/ leak down test to make sure your rings arent shot.
( I know mines arent because I just had a 6bolt engine rebuild a month ago. )
I wouldnt be surprised if the breakin process is what killed the turbo.

Is there any play in the turbo? I was always under the assumption that if you had bad seals there would be some shaft play.
