Heres a video of my car running, it just started doing this overnight. I think i might have bad lifters but would like suggestions, it sounds like it is coming from the intake side of the head, doesnt sound down in the block. YouTube - Bad lifter? DSM

Wow you need to take that very serious, mine tapped that hard then one took a dump on me,rresults,a bent intake valve.Had to do a head job,i got the toplines from extreme psi. Here's an old trick, pour a quart of transmission fluid in the engine and let it idle for like 45 minutes, then do an oil change, most times it helps.

Well its probably not a bent valve because the compression test was 150 ppsi across the board so I am thinking it is just collapsed lifters, and when I replace that, if it doesnt stop ill have to think of something other, ill do another compression test just for good measure.

All cylinders came up as between 145 and 155 psi cold, because I havent driven it like this, I am takign it very seriously. So that rules out bad valves or anything of that nature, I am going to check the timing belt tensioner, the crank pulley was bolted up fine, and I am going to take the valve cover off and check all of the lifters.

got it wrong buddy i am not saying that you have a bent valve, what i am saying is you need to take care of that before you end up with a bent valve.the tranny fluid works wonders.

Oh yea, I completely agree with you, I refuse to drive it haha, I wasnt trying to be defensive, I guess I just misunderstood you, but your right.

There are several things that could cause a noise like that. You'll have to do some checking to find the cause. How's the oil pressure? Low pressure could let the lifters collapse and make lots of noise.

Remove the valve cover and check the lifters. Just push down on each lifter hard. They shouldn't compress at all. If any feel soft, or if they compress, then replace them. While you're in there, make sure all rocker arms are in place. Check all valvesprings and make sure none are broken. Check the cams for scaring, look for metal shavings in the lower parts of the head. Check all bolts for tightness, including the cam caps, cam gears, timing belt tension. If you have any doubts as to what you're seeing, post it up, maybe we can help.

One lifter seemed to be soft, so I am assuming it went bad, I did not find any metal shavings, nothing was loose from what I could see, I removed the lifters as you can see, none of the springs were broken, but I will let you look to see anything I might have missed. The pictures are a little blurry, the camera would not let me take any better ones.

How would I go about checking the balance shaft bearings, would I just have to pull the oil pan off and inspect them?

Can't see much with blurry pics, except the head looks really clean. Old heads will have a tan or brown color.
Yes, to check the balance shaft bearings it's best to pull the pan and push/pull on them to check for any freeplay.
While you're in there, push down on all valves and make sure they're firm, and check the head bolts for proper torque.

Yes Ryan, there will be shavings all up in the pan, make sure you get this taken care of, your oil pump will die shortly if your bearing is junk. It causes excessive wear on the pump, which makes it pre-maturely fail.

.... But I don't know anything...

Good luck.

I know that there will be shavings in the pan, I am just looking for other ways to check it than that, its a little mor than I wanna do, new lifters in it now. I did get a new head and cleaned it, rebuilt it full stock, thats why I am stunned the lifters would go because everything in there should be new as far as I know or very low miles. I checked everything you suggested also all caps were good, the valves i pushed on from top and softly on the side, they were all fine, pans being pulled.

I also said there will be a bearing in the pan.

Like. You'll look at it and go WTF....

Most of the bearing will stay intact actually.

Did you change your bearing with the engine in or did you pull it?

Update, unless it just needs to run for longer hahah, which im not about to do, the lifters were not the issue, I will take the oil pan off and we will see from there, if thats not it, than I have a real problem hah.

Learn how to use the settings on your camera. Good lord, it's a waste of time posting them and us looking at them.

Alright update time, got the pan off, really found nothing out of the ordinary, all crank bearings and rod bearings seemed to be fine, both balance shafts had no side to side play in them really and I had no mysterious bearing in the pan, I found a very small amount of metal shavings in the bottom, so small i would discard it because i bought the pan used from a guy with a blown car, and i cleaned the pan up nad maybe didnt get a small amount. But the balance shaft on the oil pump side didnt go side to seid but it did have a small amount of play in it as in it would slightly twist, I dont know if this is normal or what.

Just make sure all bearings have no noticeable clearance that you can feel. Side to side play is OK, especially in the rods.

The rods looked good and i wiggled them and they were completely fine, the balance shaft would spin about an 1/8th turn but it was not wiggking around, so it didnt seem to be a bearing, so im assuming the lifters may just need to be broken in.

What kind of transmission fluid?
