I am still getting some pretty bad gas mileage.

I am only getting about 19.7 mpg with mostly city driving shifting at 4k.
I have already replaced my front O2 sensor and am looking to replace the fuel filter.

I have a 99gst with about 55k miles on it. Should my fuel filter already be bad?

What else should I check or change? I have NKG plugs and Accel wires are on the way.

Thanks,
Nathan

HAHA I wish I was getting 18-20 mpg. Im getting about 10-13 mpg. It cost me $10 just to drive to work and back. I have changed plugs/wires, fuel filter and i still get bad mileage. I think i have a leak at the exhaust housing part of the turbo because i see some carbon there and I heard that can kill your mileage, so you might want to check that also

This post has been helpful. i was thinking I needed a new o2 sensor because my fuel economy has dropped as well, but I wasn’t thinking of the whole cold, dense air using more fuel thing. I am getting in the 260-mile range right now…though I was in the 300’s during the summer. So I guess I am good now. ---one more thing….1g’s are supposed to have 16 gallon tanks right? Well why could I only put in about 14.6 gallons when I ran out of gas driving down the road, (that was fun). And why could I drive about 45 on “E” (only did it once)
ok…I’m done

if im not mistaken but i think theres like a 1 gallon reserve when gas light comes on not sure cause i drove it till it hit e and my light came on and i filled it and got like almost 15 gallons

i have never seen my light come on....does it make a ding noise? havent heard it, and i ran it till it was empty, or did it just fake me out?

My brother just bought a 95 GSX about a week ago, and he hates the gas mileage. Does anybody know how much he is supposed to get?
I was also wondering if there was any tuning we could do to it to get better gas mileage? The GSX has 117,000 miles, is it time for a new 02 sensor? Please help, he is now talking about selling it and buying a Honduh! :( That would be the worst, because he only paid 4 grand for the GSX. He had a Honduh Del Sol before, I think he is just spoiled with the almost 30mpg he got with that.

Tell him to quit flooring it everywhere. Just because you have a turbo doesn't mean you have to use it constantly. When my car was stock I would get 400 miles to the tank. Just be easy with the spooling and you will get great gas mileage. Better than a honduh even.

its awd so he's gonna get less gas milage.. tell him i'll buy his car off him for a grand so he can go get a honduh...

Yea, I'll tell him that. He is just being stupid about the gas mileage.
I am starting to get mad at him because I told him about it and my dad got him a really good deal on it, (he bought it from the dealership where my dad works) and now he wants to sell it.

The 02 sensor is a common cause of poor gas mileage. As well, plugs and wires are also possible culprits. Also, if it is modded, the gas mileage is going to get worse. I get about 20MPG in a mix of city/highway driving with the mods in my profile. It was definitely better than that before I put in the bigger fuel pump and exhaust mods.

haha thats funny.. i have a couple honda friends and they're all the same they want good gas milage and a fast car... too bad none of their cars are fast.. i get about 25 city and 30 highway... which isn't bad but thats when i just drive like my grandma would.. but if i go WOT a lot well.. then i'd be lucky to get 16 city....

Would the 02 sensor need replaced after 117,000 miles? I am trying to get him to buy new plugs and wires. Is 25 mpg typical for an GSX?

I think I am going to just tell him to go buy his precious Honduh.

Oh yea, It's bone stock. It really stinks he wants to sell it, because I want to have some fun modding it.

Yea, I already thought of that, but my car doesn't get any mileage.

No engine will do that to you. :(

He actually owned my car before me, but the oil pump went bad and that murdered the engine. After that, he bought the Honduh Del Sol
and got spoiled with its good gas mileage.

Pssh, i prolly get half the gas mialeage the del sol gets, but I ain't being a complaining buitch, but your brother is. Sorry face the thruth, your brother is a complaining little bi*** :p

I assumed stock GSX/TSi awd's got about 18-19 city, 24 hwy.

I've got 550's and a 255 for fuel mods, with no afpr and i can still manage about 250 miles on a 13 gallon fill (about 20 mpg average) on average boosting. I only go WOT every so often.

200 miles per tank. thats closer to 15-16 mpg?

And yes, after a while, the o2 goes. it's more common than you think.

plugs and wires too, check those.

new plugs and wires, fuel filter, 02 sensor and check for the correct timing should be the first things you should do. even maybe a good fuel injector additive every so often.
if after this you still have bad gas mileage, then something is wrong, you can maybe check for boost leaks...

if his mileage really sucks that much then do the stuff stated above. i got mid 17 mile per gallon in the winter, and now im getting around 19-20, fully stock but WOT a lot

Yea, that's what he's like. I have no problem admitting that.

He also changes his mind about what car he wants every five seconds.

Thanks for all the help, I'll try to get him to buy new plugs and wires and the other stuff.

make sure he is using the recommended premium gas and not 89 octane regular feul , it will hinder gas mileage. Also if you got a sunoco around tell him to go fill it up 94 octane , should help some.

I get shitty gas mileage on my '95 GSX too. A full tank would be around 180 miles - 200 tops....

My car has 90K miles on it. But then again, I love my car, so I dont complain too much...

I got Accel wires and NGK plugs as well.

Just out of curiosity. How much does it cost to replace the O2 censor???
