Ok this is a problem that i just cant seem to figure out, I will try to explain the problem, then explain what i did and see if any one else has some ideas as to what it could be.

Ok you start that car and even as its starting you can hear this clunking noise, it tranny). This clunking noise is pretty constant but not always, heres how it goes, at idle its definatly there, put the clutch in moving or at idle and it either quites way down and clunks less or completely goes away. If your accelerating at all the clunking gets really faint to where you can barely hear it, ifdefinatly sounds mechanical and definatly from in or around the engine (i doubt the you step into the gas you cant here it over the exhaust, as soon as you . Once the car warms up some times you can hear the noise and some timshift you can hear it for a breif second, and as soon as you left off the gas to let the engine slow its self down you hear it really bad even over the exhaustes you can just barely hear it. (i know its weird and non of it seems constant)

Ok now for what i have done.
This weekend i dropped the oil pan to look and see if there was any metal in it that would indicate something with the rods or rod bearings, but there was nothing it was clean. Looked up under there at the rods and everything looked fine. I check the spark plugs and there were a little dirty but i have seen worse (his car does run pig rich). checked to make sure the wires were giving a good spark and they were, I looked around for vacume leaks or anything disconnected and couldnt find anything.

Here is the additional info.
The car is a 95gst with a 92 6 bolt block, the car has a dsmlink that was used to make some adjustments on it a few weeks before i bought it, I had the car for 2 weeks before this problem started. The car does run really rich. if you need any more info please ask.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Eric

checked the compression? maybe a spun rod bearing? how loud is it? what octane ya using? how loud is it? sound like a broken rod (even though i guess it's not)? know what a broken rod sounds like? tried giving it gas standing at the motor to try and track it down? more info might be good.....
