i took the advise of a local mechanic and put 4 heli coils in my block to hold the head bolts . bad idea coils didnt hold after motor ran a very short time . however i did manage to get my hands on a block already 30 over for a really good price ( $ 25 ) block is in great shape no stripped bolt holes i have never done a complete dsm build anything i should keep in mind do or not do ?

Pick up a m12x1.25 tap to run through your head bolt holes so you don't run into the same situation as your first block did. I found mine at a local hardware store for $4 (Autozone/o'reillys do not carry this size)

just run it down each bolt hole before you put your head bolts in

i did the balancer delete on my original motor everything i have read about to claims you dont have to block off the back oiler with the bearing just the front one . is that wrong ?

Yes, you do not have to flip the bearing on the rear balance shaft that's connected to the oil pump.

Here's the VFAQ with the correct OEM part numbers for the plug and the stubby shaft.
Balance Shaft Eliminator Kit Install

if anyone ever has problems with head bolt holes stripping they should get timeserts, not helicoils.

is it really worth taking out the balance shafts

of course it is, it raises the oil pressure and Brent Rao says thats why they dont make high pressure oil pumps, because all you have to do is eliminate the balanceshafts. There are threads about porting the oil filter housing to lower oil pressure, ive already talked to the machine shops they say they dont do anything to lower oil pressure, its a stupid idea.

^^ is not true ,too much oil pressure will rob HP and not cool the bearing faces or the crank/ cam journals, the oil moves to fast and will not absorb the heat like it should

most all engines need a max of 60psi of oil pressure to rev to 10k

time serts are good, that alcoa crap is bad, same with helicoils. motor on!

FYI if your running 100+ psi oil pressure you run the risk of blowing your oil seals(Front cover etc) , it robs hp, and pisses off bearings. I would suggest you stop taking your parts to a machine shop that says not to modify the oil passage. There is a spring and piston to regulate the oil flow for a reason.. if it can't properly bleed you get overrun. Your oil pressure exceeds the design specs of the gaskets and then your pulling your timing belt because your front cover gasket ate shit. Also with a turbo car regardless of type to much oil pressure is bad. Ball bearing turbos with excessive oil pressure act like journal bearing turbos because it adds more oil to the bearing cartridge adding drag. and to a lesser extent the same with journal bearings, with both if you run to much oil pressure (to the turbo) the seals blow out and you have oil in your exhaust and you kill misquotes for days..

tap used for the head studs, 12 x1.25 bottoming, thread chasing tap. No need to cut new threads, and gotta get all the way down in the hole.

With a mitsubishi 4g63 the happy place for oil pressure is about 75-80 at 4k and above. Some say 10psi per 1000, I don't agree since its not a linear relationship but whatevs. Its better than the jagoff that said don't modify the oil relief port. You modify the oil system and it runs extra pressure, you will likely need to modify the oil system again to run less pressure.

Conclusion, everything has a happy place!!

also im pretty sure that having that oil releif vavle ported to lower the oil pressure is a good idea if you will be coldstarting your engine alot, like in Michigan winters and stuff.... im in canada so heck yeah i ported it to lower the pressure a bit, i dont like to run really thin oil in the winter in my dsm so that kinda compensates for that.

Kiggly Racing HLA Pressure Regulator.

HLA Pressure Regulator

· Actively Regulates Lash Adjuster Supply Pressure to a Constant 15psi
· Accomplishes this by Restricting Flow Instead of Dumping Extra Pressure like the JDM Regulator
· Reduces Oil Flow Into the Head, Keeps More Oil in the Pan
· In Some Instances can Greatly Improve Oil Pressure at the End of a 1/4mi Pass - Click Here to See Results from the Kiggly Racing Drag Car
· Air Bleed at the Highest Point Helps Oil Quality and Aeration to Lash Adjusters

He's doing a lot to lower his oil pressure and it seems to be working. Doesn't seem like a "stupid idea" to me.

You should have towed your car to the machine shop with head off, there is always a guy who fixes those problems, he would use a bearing insert instead of a helicoil, thats what I did and it holds.

the guy who told me to use the helicoil is a legitimate mechanic builds modified vettes mostly the l88 never the less the dsm isnt a l88 vette i, the holes got jacked up by a pill popping tard that sold me the car . im going with the new block i picked up its at the machine shop now . now is lowering my oil presure a good idea i did the bs delete but i live in north mississippi dosent exactly get real cold here .seems like mixed opinions on that topic

I recomend that you remove the soft ball bearing plugs in the oil passages in the crank rod journals and then tapping them out and installing allen head plugs and use lock tight. I picked up this tid bit of info from a 4G63T build book, Wrote by RRE, right after i read about it i went to the engine i have on the stand in my room(5 years of saving and collecting parts) ONE the of the ball plugs were haning out of the crank half way, I then tapped it back in like 1/4!!! WHAAAT the hell. That woulda have been real bad. now i have to pull it out and do this to my crank.

buy thAt book published by Road Race Engineerings top engine guy and some editor if you plan on building a bad ass motor

I know a lot of legitimate mechanics that are morons LOL. I have fired plenty. The HLA kigley part addresses oil pressure for the top end of the motor, specificly the oil passages for the Lash adjusters. If you have balance shafts removed and you have any hopes in hell of running oil thats in the 10-40 20-50 range port the damn passage LOL. Hot cold or in the middle just do it like nike..

i did the bs delete on my original moyar and i agree it makes replacing the timing belt much easier .and morron mechanices are a dime a dozen around here everyong knows everythig and none of them know shit which is why im seeking advise via internet . and advise on how to convince a wife that storing a motor in your bed room makes sense ?

Advise on motor storage; forgiveness is easier to get then permission!
