Axles Seized Help!!

We're trying to drop the tranny to swap in a different motor. We are trying to get the axles out and have been stuck for three days. We've soaked them in PB and have banged on them with everything including a full size sledge hammer.

Questions: Will a axle puller be able to do anything more than what we've already done? I've heard of breaking them. How much would heating it up help? Propane or mapp gas? What do we do if we can't get them out? Can we pull the driveshafts out of the transmission and suspend them while they are still attached to the hub? Thanks for the help!

I assume that you are talking about removing the nut from the end of the axle. I got mine off by using a long breaker bar and standing on the end of the breaker bar and bouncing up and down. The more you weigh, the better it works.

We've soaked them in PB !

thats why... if you soak anything in peanut butter your never getting it to work again..... but use the breaker bar... you dont need to stand on it just get a bigger bar.... if that doesnt work call a tranny shop and ask them whats up.

I'm assuming you already got the nut off. you can use some heat and try to knock it out. If you can't get it with a few good wacks then most likely it is rust welded to the inside of the hub. you will have to replace the entire knuckle and axle. But serisouly you've been stuck for 3 days, it can't take more then an extra 30 min to drop the knuckle

yeah we got the axle nuts off, it took a breaker bar + 2.5 ft. of pipe and i had to jump on it
now the "knuckle i'm assuming is the whole hub assembly, we dropped all the ball joints, and everything is off of that. Do you think i really need to get new hubs or could i drop the hubs out with the axles in and just put them back in still seized up?

Also, is there a cheap way to repair the ball joint boots? they got pretty f'd up in the process.

alot of times cheap fixes= expensive disasters

Go to AutoZone and rent a slide hammer. You'll put a deposit down on a credit card, but you'll get refunded when you bring it back. It'll have an adapter to fit over the axle - put the adapter on and put the spindle nut back on. Pull the axle taught, and smack the slide as hard as you can.

Should pop out after a few blows. It is possible it might break the CV joints, but you might be screwed either way.
