ok well my car wouldnt rev past 5k and sounded like crap. so i started checking things. and when i pulled my oil pan there it was my balance shaft bearing and some metal shavings. So this weekend i pulled the motor just so i could replace some basic parts and the bse kit. But i want to know if the bad bearing screwed anything up in my engine? What do i need to check while the motor is out of the car?

Thanks,
bryce

any advice? what do i need to check? rod bearings, main bearings, crankshaft, rods, oil pump? i really dont know where to start looking and how i even check them any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Bryce

If you found some of your bearing, chances are that parts of it are floating throughout your engine. Your oil pump, turbo, oil squirters etc could be plugged up. Change your oil filter too!

For starters, if you dont already have one, invest in a repair manual. It will help. Also, it wouldn't hurt to take some pictures of things along the way just for reference points when taking things apart. I just finished my rebuild because of the same thing. When the balance shaft seized up, my oil pump went up, and shavings wound up everywhere. I would recommend doing a complete teardown (crank, bearings, rods, pistons) and clean/check everything. Also with the engine out, I would recommend installing a balance shaft elimiinator kit. It increases oil pressure, and gets rid of the balance shaft belt. I've also heard that it makes it alot easier replacing the timing belt without the balance shaft belt there anymore. Good luck

ok well tonight i pt the motor on the stand and checked the timming. and all the marks still lined up so thats good. Then the rest of the night my dad and i stood around talking about what we are going to end up doing. So i plan on tearing down the engine to the block during the next couple days. And once i get to the block i want to pull out the rods and pistons and crankshaft and everything to check them. But my question is how do i check my bearings b/c if anything i think thats what the metal shavings would have ruined.

Thanks,
Bryce

You'll know if the bearing is bad. Look for scoring or "scratches" in the bearing. If I were you, since you're going to pull it, I'd just replaced all the bearings with new ones. And do all the gaskets while you got the motor ripped apart.
