Balance Shaft Bearing Help

Hey,
I was just curious to see if some of you guys have some tricks on getting those damn bearings out! I was smacking them with a flathead and a mallet and the front one wasn't budging! I have no idea how I am going to tackle the rear. Any help is appreciated, thanx.

Use a bearing/seal driver, it will put even pressure around the bearings, making them come out alot easier.

Where might one be able to pick up a tool like that. I got the normal places around me, autozone, napa, etc. Also would you have any idea on the price. Thanx

If you can find a socket that will fit in the casting hole but not slip intot he bearing then just use that. Anything will work just finding the right piece. You may have to go to a machine shop and see what they have to use.

I'm getting ready to do the BSE this weekend.
I've read to get the Front B-Shaft Rear Bearing out, all you have to do is pull out the Front B-Shaft, flip it over and push in the end that normally bolts up to the sprocket first and push it up to the rear bearing, the diameters are very similar to that of a V-8 camshaft, (i.e., the bearings step down in size). Then just tap it out with a hammer on the end of the Front B-Shaft.
I've also read that many guys use a 32mm socket to press out the Front Bearing. To do this, measure the Outside Diameter of the Front B-Shaft Front Bearing and turn down the socket to fit the O.D. of the bearing, then all you have to do is knock it out with a hammer.
I'm going to have a socket modified, and I'll post the necessary dimensions to do this mod.

Just turn the balance shaft around like you said, and hit it with a hammer carefully. Ans as you already know, you can use the balance shaft as an installation tool for the bearings as well.

And you really don't need to fabricate a custom socket either.

So how do you knock out the outer most front balance shaft bearing then.
I really don't want to use a screw driver and tap it out, that will take way to long and there is a possibility of scarring the bearing surface in the block, that could possibly make installing the bearing turned out 90 degrees a real PITA...

Try using a piece of fence tubing, thats what my mechanic used.
