take a pry bar and pry the hell out of them. or lay under the car and use the pry bar as a punch and hit them out with a hammer

Use a prybar or tire iron with a flat tip.
gently wedge it between the transmission and the large round part of the axle and twist your pry bar.
They should pop right out that way.
 
Pretty easy on 1gs..

Just..
*Take the Clips off the axle and loosen the 32mm Axle nut w/breaker bark or Impact
*Remove the (2) Nuts/Bolts holding the strut (So you can pull the knuckle further to get the axle out)
*Then use a pry bar to pry it out of the tranny

Im sure there's a few things im forgetting but thats the quick version ;)
