a friend of mine who is into 4wd, said if i were to take out my front drive axles and plug the holes so no fluid would leak out, that it would make it rear wheel drive would that work???WTF

It would be, but I can't really comment on how good it is for the car. I wouldn't recommend it personally though.

thatd be one ghetto rigged rwd setup, are you asking this because youd like to be rwd or just because your friend said "hey, u got awd if you want rwd just take the axles in front out and plug the holes."?

you will distroy the rear end of the car, it isnt designed to handle all the power of the motor.

to be honest i dont think it would. Have you checked out the other rwd dsm's? they all dont have some upgraded diff beyond the stock 4bolt? check out buschur's website they have a rwd conversion and in the parts theres nothing to make the rear end stronger or replace it with anything.

also the transaxle splits the power so you are going to be losing power to drive the car (torque loss) I dont have my factory manual handy but its like 65% to the front and 35% to the rear...

I thought DSMs have a true 50/50 setup?

I have seen it argued both ways in these forums. It would be nice to get the correct answer though. Any takers?

I agree 100 %, and i always hear it as being 100% true one way or another. I'd like to know too!

As per the original question; that would be a bad idea, the rear end wouldnt be able to handle it. Search www.streetfire.net for "wicked burnout", a guy with a 1g did exactly what you are asking. His rear end gave out shortly after i have heard. But it did make for a sweet burnout!

Like you guys said it been argued alot. I've always heard and read its more like 40 front 60 rear. But i dont know. Thats just some of the research I did.

It starts as 50/50 but with the viscous coupler it can change when it senses wheel slip.
