Well I will be picking up my 98 TSi AWD talon in a month. It is a automatic, and I would like to have a manual. Anyway someone can get me a write up or detail list of things needed for the swap. Im really scared to see a labor install cost, if I can even find someone to do it, or help. Im sure I will have to rock the automatic for a year, until financial situation is better. Any help would be BEYOND wonderful:hellyeah:

Autos just dont take any SKILL.... 2 pedals, one to slow down one to speed up. both to launch. i launched a subara wrx (stock) automatic and it was SLOW AS BALLS!!!! the manual ones are way faster. STOCK the autos are alot slower but when you mod tham they are nice :) except the reason they are for girls is cause women suck at driving standard and dont know how to launch :)

but to everyone his own and if automatic is your thing than its your thing!! and you get to make fun of us manual guys for always having to shift LOL but we get to make fun of you for having more fun shifting LOL

I wouldnt say auto is for girls I bet my mom will smoke the sh!t out of most in a 5 speed. And wicked yea hopefully I can make it up there soon. It will be nice to take a look at the car my self and get more detail on it.

Maybe the reason it was slow is because you have no skill. By your logic it must take so much skill to drive a 5 speed huh? I think im going to have to enter my 12yo brother in a contest or something because he knows how to drive my 5 speed car. I never pegged my little bro to be that much of a genius, weird.

Thats just my opinion, as you have your opinion. However Im a mathematical man, ill listen to facts before anything else.

im a mathematical man also... but what im saying is LAUNCHING a 5spd and shifting it right takes alot more skill than an auto. dont even argue that because you dont even have to shift an auto?
like i said to eveone his own and eveyone has their own opinion. i have nothing against autos i just think a 5spd is more fun thats why i have one :)

Word. Im all for "to each their own" and all that jazz. Most of my cars have been standard shift, and they are fun. But since were talking fact you cant say the autos are slower than their 5 speed counterpart.

Well if anyone here has read my thread on the 98 TSi AWD with video help thread, I am NOT paying anything for the car. It is a straight up trade for my stock 4 door focus. I really cant argue with the guy that it's a automatic, so I just deal with it. I am one to not CARE about launching and whatnot. I am a family guy who enjoys cars. I wanted to do a 5spd swap because thats all I ever owned was 5spds, but at this point with my life/money/cars position, I will just take what I have and enjoy it. Maybe Its just me.

Its weird you say that Funwheeldrive...

No shifting on an auto??

You should know a little more about what you are talking about before you make assumptions. Even though I am the only one with a full manual bodied Trans Brake capable Auto, I know plenty of others who manually shift their autos. Its no less daunting than a 4/5spd and this is coming from a guy who has owned both a Stage 3 TRE race transmission (slightly higher than a Shep stage 4) and also a Shep DogBox, both on Twin Disc.

I'll tell you one thing, if I could do it all over again I would have never messed around or wasted my money on building those 4/5spd and I never even had a catastrophic drive line failure either. Its just one of those things you learn with experience. Maybe one day you'll learn too. When I hear these guys say ignorant comments such as the ones you make I laugh because you really know deep down you are only making those statements in order to compensate for your lack of knowledge. Next time give some better backing besides its for women... I'd expect more from you but I see that you are Canadian and drive a 2ga. I can smell the estrogen from here.

Ill tell ya now, whether 5 sped or auto, you picked up a fun little car to play around with

grab your self a IPT Reworked Valve Body (shift kit already installed) a new set of End Clutch's (dont know how your prev's owner was on it) and some Amsoil Tans fluid(thats what i use and well never had better shifting) and if you want a TQ Converter 4k stall ( i think thats what i have LOL) and call it a day.

BTW welcome to the family :D
