AWD Auto...

My friend just bought a 1g TSI awd and it came with a parts car thats is also a 1g awd that he still has to pick up. Apparently it is in great condition, but it has no motor, tranny, and wheels. He might sell this to me for like $50-100. I was wondering if a manual engine will work in it if I can't find an automatic one. I'm pretty sure that there the same except the turbo and I believe the cams? but I wasn;'t sure if that was it. I want to pick this up for like a daily driver nothing more maybe a few boltons.

you have alot of reading to do. And yes, the motors are interchangeble. The Auto and Manual Transmission 4g63s are the same. Auto 1gs did come with the 13g turbo, but if your just getting a motor, the turbo isn't considered a part of that.

Alright, I was just gonan try to find one from a junkyard or something cheap just to use the car as a daily driver. And the fwd motors are the same to right?

Looks like the cams are different. Also the turbo, injectors and ecu is different.

oh i see...well i duno if the car has a ecu or not...probabaly be a good idea to just find a auto engine

yeah, if you could it'd be best. I know more about 2gs then I do 1gs. Hard to believe the cams are different... wow. I should've mentioned the ECU, but as far as the motor goes internally I was under the impression they were the same? I imagine the cams wouldn't really matter though.

I'm sure the cams aren't that much different...but yeah probabaly best to try to find a auto unless I can get the whole wiring harness and ecu

The wiring harness is the same just get a jdm engine with turbo and ecu. Auto engines comes with a 13g 390cc injectors and cams designed for more torque and lower top end power other than that they are the same. And stay away from automatic trannys they are just problems.

I just want it for a daily driver so i really don;t wanna dump a ton of money into but i guess if its in that good of condtion it might be worth it...and I don't really wanna go through the trouoble of switching a auto to a manual in an awd car...seems like to much work when i could just buy an awd manual. I have a Nissan 200sx that I'm storing for the winter and I have plans for that over the winter and spring so i need to keep this car on a tight budget...

Dude, autos are fine. If anything, twice as reliable as the DSM manny transmissions. You'll love the auto.

1. Boost stays when you shift
2. Brake boost launches can be sick (leaving the line with 12 or more psi)
3. Easier to work on
4. No changing gears
5. with TCUgo or IPTs shift box, you can change the gears if you want to
6. with a shift kit and good fluid, it can hold tons of horsepower with no problems

The EVO X is only going to be available in an auto, if that tells ya anything.

Not knocking manuals, after all I had a TSI, and who doesn't love banging the gears around??
