So FWD trannys are next to impossible to find, Could i drop an awd transmission in my project car and just use a SBR VCE to make it a fwd car?

Provided i dropped the diff output and sealed that up, Would this work?

worth a shot heh, Anyone have any input on this?

Thanks guys

Jacks transmissions will rebuild your FWD tranny for $799.99

Jacks transmissions come very highly recommended and are also a vendor on the site!

Just a thought, this is what I plan on doing if I can't pick up the GSX I'm looking at! :)
Sorry it's not relative to the question asked, just thought I would drop in a suggestion!

Yes, you can use an AWD transmission, but I would reccomend also changing over to AWD front axles incorporating the halfshaft on the drivers side. If you use the AWD trans, you will also need to change slave cylinders, starters, and flywheels. I am also going to tell you to use the search engine on this forum, because there are several people that have done an AWD conversion, and the transmission install is the same.

You can remove the viscous coupler and put in a VCE, but I would strongly reccomend using your FWD transmission with a rebuild instead -- the AWD 2G 5-speeds are even more rare than your FWD. The only way I would reccomend the AWD transmission is if you were doing an AWD swap into your car.

Etc. This was two that popped up in one fast google search.

Yes you can and it will work just fine. I recently blew my trans and was faced with getting a used AWD with a welded center diff, or getting a TRE stage II rebuild from a FWD core(there were no used FWD units avaiable at the time).

I went with a stage II rebuild from TRE w/ a quaiffe LSD installed and it's great. He had a trans in stock and i just boxed my old one up to send back as a core ( i had the trans shipped to me and installed it in less than a week from blowing the stock one) it doen'st get any easier! You can get all the same options in an AWD rebuild meant for a FWD though too along with the better gear ratios of the AWD tranny. The only reason i regret buying the FWD over the AWD is that it kinda dampens my plan to convert to AWD in the next few years. But at least having the built trans with an LSD is still a thousand times better than an open diff in any FWD configuration.
