Would you be able to switch a car from FWD to RWD? Is so, is it easy to do?

RWD is awesome. You can say what you want, but I love RWD. Drifting is stupid, but you seriously cant say that FWD is good for anything except maybe gas milage and highway races.

Id seriously say you have a few choices on a good budget:
Nissian 240SX
Toyota MR2
Mitsubishi Starion/ Crysler Conquest (my favorite but kinda hard to find)
Mustang
Nissian 300ZX or 350Z

Im sure there are more, I just cant think of any.

ya know, coulnt you just take out your front dirveshafts? adn put a different diff in somewhere..........just wondering. Ive never actually contemplated turnign a gsx into a gsRWD......i know yuors isnt a gsx, but just a thought

Id rather have the AWD. Thats what DSMs are made for. If I wanted a RWD, Id buy a RWD vechicle.

The only reason he turned the engine was to mate it up to that tranny. You don't need to do that to make it RWD.

BTW- Drifting is not stupid, if it is real drifting (i.e. D1), but dumb kids in cars that are set up properly drifting on the street is stupid

If you put a VCE in your car and pulled the axle bones out you could have a RWD car but you will likely snap a rear axle as they were never ment to take more then 30% of the engines power output. Trust me I have snapped both axles AutoXing, those basterds are weak.

I am not at all a "JDM" fan but doesnt the JDM t-case/tranny allow for either FWD or AWD? I know it isnt a flip of a switch or anything but all it takes is the removal of a bolt or something.

I am sure you would need a welded center diff though to do this.

you can replace the front axles with dummy axles which will make it rwd. I have a video of some kid who did it. Its not all that cool, and really serves no purpose.

Isnt it a little bit hard to have the drivetrain coming out of the tranny to the rear diff. if the tranny were facing side to side like it does in its stock location? I would think because all rear wheel drive cars have the engine sitting long ways from front to back, that would be the preferred/easiest way to do it. This is of course going with the original question converting a FWD to RWD. AWD is not the question at hand.

Our rear ends are not designed to take 100% of the power. Why do people want to convert FWD to RWD or AWD to RWD. Buy a Mustang, Trans-am, 240 etc. You DO have to flip the motor like Bushur to put a proper RWD transmission. Your not suppose use a Transaxle with a transfer case to power just the rear wheels. That question has popped up many times, just do a search you would be surprised in what you find.

Thanks, thats what i thought, but i was not completely sure. I would never change mine to RWD. I have a FWD (n/t with turbo) and i am just about to buy a AWD for the track. Definitely staying AWD, that would never cross my mind

We already answered that question, yeah its possible if you flip your motor and put a RWD transmission, I have to say you have to do a lot of custom work. Like I said earlier, do not use an AWD tranny to just power the rear wheels. It is very difficult to make a FWD to a RWD. It will cost probably 3-4 times what your car is worth.

well i was on YouTube.com one day, and i happened to come across a video that was awesome, but it got to the end and showed this black 2nd gen, and it looked nice and all, but they showed the engine bay and there was no engine, then the camera man walked around to the back, and they had put the motor in the back and converted it to RWD!!!I was like, WHAT?!?! heres the link, its at the end of the video, tell me what you guys think. And have you ever seen this doen before?
