My fuel gauge wasn't reading past a half tank, found out after replacing my fuel pump the sending unit fell out of its holder. Month later it did it again. So before I take it out again what can I do to keep this from happening?

OR!!!!!!!!! Do what I did.

Ok, I was getting tired of not knowing where my fuel level was so took upon myself to fix this issues by first cutting out the stock sender unit connectors and line.

So I bought a 140 full to 33ohm empty sender and ordered a Autometer gauge to match.

Also I used a 5/16 brake line and bend it just right with the right tools I have and had a buddy that is a genius with a tig welder,LOL.

^^^ By doing so, this will keep the factory suction or gravity feed to drain on the pass side to add fuel to the pump on that side.

So seeing that I'm playing with fuel, decided to change that tried ass walbro and step up my game with a new AEM 320lph fuel pump.

So after the install, the car runs great, the pump is so dam quiet I swear I thought it wasn't working,LOL. I do recommend this pump to anyone that's tried of walbros,LOL. For a $107.00 dollars from extreme psi, diffidently worth the money, happy customer here. I'm happy that now I have a fuel gauge that actually works, repaired the DS sender so no more rust and a fuel pump I can trust!!

Also getting a used sending is like a needle and a haystack, so this is why I repair the senders to like new status because it's really not that hard. If your not good at fab work, find someone that can. Don't settle for not fixing something that could be easy enough to repair, well that's just me though,LOL.

For 2g DSMs they are not the same. On FWDs, the sending unit is separate. I know this real well since I keep checking resistance on my sending unite because the fuel gauge is going bad.

Pretty sure that the sending units are identical. It wouldn't of been cost efficient for mitsubishi to make a sending unit for each trim level. I've owned both fwd and awd, and the sending units looked identical. :hmm:

The OP's picture in the very first post looks nothing like the FWD unit. As I stated before, in the FWD model there are 2 separate units. In the AWD, there's only 1. The AWD version even attaches differently with a collar/ locking ring, and the FWD mounts with 6 nuts on each unit.

Saying it's not cost effective doesn't make sense since of the 6 different models in the 2g Eclipse range, 5 use the FWD units, and only the AWD version uses the one unit since it has a drive shaft running through the middle and has no room for a 2nd unit.

So that we are all made known of differences between tanks, sending units, and fuel pumps, these are the factory schematics for each engine/ drivetrain option. As I stated previously, the AWD model has one combined pump/sender unit whereas all the other models have two separate units. The only other difference is that the AWD tank has two sending units due to the tunnel through the tank for the drive shaft and exhaust.

yes fwd and awd are different. The sending unit/pump are one. Finding another would not be that simple. My original problem was the sending unit fell out of its cradle and the screw wasn't holding it
