I am wanting to build a car for my wife. Was considering buying an awd shell, and swapping in a 4g64 from eagle summit minivan awd,, or using the summit awd drive train in a DSM shell. Was wondering what would be the best way to approach this. I have seen eagle summit vans converted to 4g63 turbo.

End result, I want to build an awd NON TURBO. Thanks!

Ah yes, I remember those. Probably more scarce than a vr4...Only lacked the 4 wheel steering and turbo vrs vr4? Whouldnt there be other no turbo cars that could be used? If I found a galant gsx,, I would likely keep it!

Depends on the transmission you're gonna use but the 96-99 spyder engine bolts up to any 4g63 transmission

You didn't say if you were looking for a 1g or 2g. To have a n/t awd 1g, you'd need to find an awd shell. Then install a n/t 2.0 engine and make the awd tranny fit the n/t motor.

The wiseman on this site known as TimG has an awd n/t 1g. And I've read about a few other ppl doing it, so it is doable.

I suppose you could find an awd 2g shell and swap in the n/t 2.0 4g63 along with an awd tranny.

Honestly though, why not just pick up a second hand Subaru or Audi if awd n/t is important?

Ya, just get a gsx/vr4 and swap either a 4g64, or 4g63 NT in it.

The 4g64 would be better for the extra TQ.

?

You don't have to make it fit. It is the same motor, it bolts right up.

O/K, so a 2g awd shell, with a non turbo 4g63 out of a 1g, or a spyder engine. I guess spider gs came with 4g64?

I figured there would be a combo that would be a fairly straight forward swap. I just do not know which engines were intended for driver side transmission, or passenger side trans as in awd dsm.

My wife dosent want an audi or subaru. She wants my car. I would like to build here either a 1g or 2g awd with the non turbo engine.

If I am understanding correctly,, the 1g non turbo 2.0 models came with a 4g63 NT engine,, and its trans was mounted on the passenger side,, just like the awd cars? What about spyders,, 4g64 designed with the trans on passenger side?

I am wanting to build a car for my wife.

Kill two birds with one stone, dude. Get her a late 90s NA Impreza, the Martina Navratilova edition, preferable with a rainbow bumper-sticker, and then sit back and wait for the ensuing threesome.

I'm not sure if I've ever lawled so hard...

why pay ins. for a awd turbo car if it is not a turbo car that makes no since in the end just get her a gsx. My wife has always had turbo dsm's for the last 9 years till this year when she wanted a 4 door auto so I got her a 01 mirage sedan that some day will be a evo 4 swap

get a awd, take off turbo mani, build headers, get a sri, tune car.

done.

would be slow as eff though. maybe get some higher compression pistons for it.

2 reasons for wanting to build a non turbo awd dsm: First, I dont want to have to maintain 2 turbo charged cars. She is hard on vehicles, and its better to have the increased reliability of a naturally aspirated car,, and she dosent care about going fast,, just likes the look. Second, just to do it. Plus,,awd is pretty much mandatory for winter driving. I think a 2.4 NT awd would be plenty quick enough on the street.
