Can I use a 91-94 AWD ECU in a 91-94 FWD?
and what is an Eprom ECU and can I use that?

i dont think u can, its a different drivetrain, plus if ur tryin to get a turbo ECU into a n/a car, i dont thing its goin to work, theyre calibrated differently

If it is a turbo car then they should interchange. I have a 91 FWD ECU in my 92 AWD and it works great. If it is going from an N/A to a turbo then you are in a big mess. You will need to change the entire wiring harness.


An Eprom basically lets you change parameters in the ECU is self. A non Eprom is just the way it is and wont change.

All the 5-speed Turbo ECU's are the same. All the auto turbo ECU's are the same.

As such, a FWD Turbo 5-speed ECU and an AWD Turbo 5-speed ECU are interchangable.

The auto ECU will work with a simple chip change.

yeah it worked. I checked the model number on mine that went bad, it seems it was for the 89/90 years, which has to two wires that are different. I checked the part number on yours and it is the one i need. I have my car in my driveway with the battery disconnected. I'm trying to get one with the same P/N as yours from this guy on here, he told me 55 dollars, so i emailed him back this morning and trying to get that one for cheaper since i'm broke as a joke.

I also had another guy reply he said for the ecu and and AFC combo deal it would be 250, so i'm looking at either one of these, but i think his ecu is out of a 90 also, so i don't want to mess with that, but i do want an afc to have better fuel control especially so i can tune inside my car while watching my trims instead of having to pull over all the time and pop the hood to give a click here and there on the MAFT.

or fuel injector change. although i put a 5 speed in my auto and stock injectors, it ran fine. but i only drove it for about 20 min to make sure that waswhat was wrong with it.

also all 5 speeds aren't the same and all autos aren't the same. the they are different in the years. you can change the pins on your harness to make them work though.

I love when people tell you you are wrong, but give no explanation why or how.

You are correct the 90 are the bastard year. You will need to change two wires and a few ingnition components to get it to work correctly. From 91-94 will all interchange as long as they follow what KPT said. Scope out the VFAQ or do a google on it and you will find a site that shows you exactly what you need to do to swap between a 90 and other years. If I was at home I could pull it from favorites but Im at work.
