what is the difference between FWD and AWD ecu's? my FWD ecu took a shit on me and i replaxced it with an AWD EPROM. it runs fine, but i was just wondering what the difference was.

If i remember correctly, there is a difference in the 90 ecu from the 91-94s. There shouldn't be any difference in the ecu from awd vs fwd, but there is a difference between automatic and manual. There is a resistor that tells the ecu what settings to use on an eprom (if it is an eprom).

How about you letting the Moderators do their job?

By asking a question that is almost EXACTLY the same as yours in "your" thread, it saves the creation of a nearly identical thread.

automatic vs 5speed

auto has smaler turob, injectors, and differnt cams.
so a differnt fuel trim is needed.

Some will say that they have slightly different fuel curves and timming maps for certain years or between AWD and FWD, but I havent seen any proof. I would imagine they are exactly the same for the 5 speed cars from 91-94, but again some have "said" there are differances, but I cant find any doing a search.

I have a 91 FWD Eprom in my 92 AWD and it works fine.

well mine is a 1990 FWD, and had non-eprom ecu. i put an AWD eprom in it that came out of a 1990. it seems to wanna bog out when i first start out and its cold but my isc is actin up, so more than likely its the isc not the ECU. othe rthan that it runs fine. i just heard that the fuel trims ewere different, i wanted to see if that was true. i knew it was ok to use it (obviously because it runs great)

ok... what's the difference between the EPROM and the ECU? Because i was thinking of swapping my FWD ECU with a 97 AWD ECU in hopes that it would remove the speed limiter(yes i know it's crazy to go over 140mph and i could die if anything goes wrong, etc... still my choice and i know where i can take my car to that speed). Anyways... would it work?
