It appears there are a lot of questions concerning this swap. I hope this will answer them all.
1996 Avenger X 4g63 AWD, Eclipse front end conversion Project in Progress.
First you must understand that this was putting an Eclipse front end on an Avenger. I did this back in 2001-2 when at the time there was little to no aftermarket parts for Avengers, like hoods, headlights(still aren't), Body kits etc.
A few have shown interest in putting Avenger front clips on 2G Eclipse/Talons and this will show the differences and what needs to be done to DO IT CORRECTLY.
You will also need to rewire you Turn signal Parking lamps as Avengers use a Turnsignal lamp seperate from the parking lamps, where the Eclipse uses a combined turnsignal parking lamp inside the headlamp assy.
The biggest difference is that the Avenger nose is about 2" longer than a 2G.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
#1 The fenders & Hood are a direct bolt on and the body/fender sculpture and lines are the same, except length & headlamp contour.
Eclipse fender on Avenger body, Avenger hood & headlamp assy still on car.
The core support tie bar and headlamp sheetmetal area is different and will need to be swapped. The headlamp bolt mounting pattern between the 2G and Avengers are different.
The easiest way would be to order the 3 pieces from the dealer.
The angle (redline) is different between a 2G & Avenger.
The best way would be to assemble the hood and fenders on the body first and then you will be able to determine exactly where you will need to weld in the core support tie bar and headlamp sheetmetal if you are using new dealer pieces.
If you use a front clip section, just drill out the spot welds and fit to the structure and weld.
