I own a 1G Eclipse GS A/T 1.8
What could it be thats causing my car to not down shift properly when i step on the gas?
Usually only happens when i have been driving on the highway for awhile. I try to floor it from a roll (at 40mph) and all it does is the RPMS shoot straight up but no acceleration. im thinking its the torque converter or some sensor is bad but not really sure. What can i do to fix this problem?

Also check your fuild level. In an AT they fluid moves velves and through something I cant explain it changes gears. Fluid and lines are real common problems with ATs. The other problem is the heat ATs make alot of heat and if not cooled right you will have problems.

yea make sure your fluid is good, if you dont have enough or too much it wont be able to flow threw the valve body with enough force to do anything.

Your converter is more then likely the problem if it is a continuing problem

I would only look at the TC as a last resort considering the cost of a new one or the cost of having it fixed, they are high priced. I like to try th echeap easy things first.

I'm not sure if dsm's have clutch packs inside the tranny or not. usually when the rpm's skyrocket with no movement of the car, it's usueally the clutch packs burnt up. does it kinda feel like a sliping clutch when this happens? But definiatly check your fluid. And if you find that the tc is your problem I got a higher stall one out of my gs-t that I'm tryin to get rid of. Not a 100% on the fitment, but I know the bell housing from the 1.8 and the 2.0 are the same.

I dont know how bad th eend clutch is in 1g auto bu tth e2g auto end clutch is horrible. It is easy to check, once I know what else is going on I will tell you were to pull your end clutch at. Also if your smells like burnt almonds(best description) then you are burning up the clutch plates. If this is the problem the end clutch is the esaiest to do(yes even a newb can do it) and also is commonly the problem so just changing that can fix it.
