automatic transmission problems.

when i have the tcu installed, it goes into 1st, but when i take off it starts slipping, and itll shift to second after it gets going, then itll start slipping, then when it shifts into 3rd, it drives fine with no slipping, and then OD is okay as well, when i DONT have the tcu plugged in , it takes off in 3rd, and drives fine (no slipping..) does anyone know whats ng? ive been dealing with this headache for about 4 months, and i dont have the money to take it to a dealership. pls help.

if your trans is slipping then it needs a rebuild end of story. with the auto trans its either tcu, solenoids or a mechanical failure internally....i have a 98 gsx and my trans did pretty much the same thing then i lost all forward gears shortly after.
if you pulled the tcu and its still slips then you can rule that out for sure. if your solenoids were bad then you would be able to pull a code and it would go into limp mode. you have a few options. rebuild which is pricey, 5 speed swap which is even pricer, or look for a new trans. i recently started parting out my gsx i wish i would have sold it to you. i put it on ebay for $200 its a 95 awd tranny with everything you need to bolt it up. it has under 40k miles on it. if your interested let me know and i'll stop the bidding i'd rather sell it to somebody on here anyways.

when i pull the tcu it doesnt slip. and sometimes when i have the tcu in, it doesnt slip. its like its in limp mode and i dont know how to get it out.

Get that thing to a trans shop that has a scan tool to read your codes. Make sure specifically they can hook your car up and get codes out, not just snoop around the bay.

Your transmission is probably good (assuming you get there in time) The more you drive it around slipping, your just going to burn up end clutches. Limp mode is exactly that, its a failsafe mode that allows the car to move but telling you something is wrong, in your case TCU wasnt hooked up.

Anyway it sounds like a pulse generator or a sensor just need to know which one. Some of these parts, you need all of them to function 100%. Example 2 pulse generators control 4 gears in a on/off pattern and between the 2, you have four different combos to do 4 different things. So if one is faulty and acting up its not going to effect 1 gear but many.

So what im saying is there is a chance its just a sensor you could get from the dealer and be good to go. Just start there before turning an easy fix into a hard one.
