I'm having a lot of trouble with my transmission. I just pulled the car out of winter hibernation and it worked fine for a day then the transmission started acting up.

At any given time I can start the car and drive it for a few hundred yards before it starts to slip and then gives up completely. At first I assumed end clutches and that still may be a possibility but considering that there is also an unknown whirring noise coming from the transmission I think that end clutches are unlikely.

Diagnosis steps so far:
*Took apart the end clutches, all the pressure plates were warped clutches were good.
*Replaced pressure plates with an upgraded set from IPT that had been on an old tranny I had laying around HOWEVER this set was damaged and one of the pressure plates was warped and all had heat spots. I had to use an emery cloth for an hour to clean all the burned clutch off of these disks.
*Replaced the transmission fluid.

All of this did nothing to change how the car acted and I'm concerned by the whirring humming noise.

I think I'll be ordering a brand new set of upgraded end clutches from IPT to see if that fixes the problem but hopefully I can hear some other ideas as well.

Maybe now would be a good time for a shift kit. As you pull the valve body apart to inspect it, you can replace stuff with the kit.

Bummer that your car is starting to give you troubles now after you were kind enough to take it off the road for the winter.

My trans gave out the same way 3 weeks ago and i am assuming it is a bad pump as i have no fluid coming out of the cooler lines while the car is running and in drive.

I THINK I may have fixed it. I changed the transmission filter and the noise went away. The car has also been on a few mile drive without issues so hopefully everything is okay. I'll be driving about a hundred miles today so I'll update this as resolved if everything seems happy at the end of the weekend.

Put just under 100 miles on it and everything seems happy. Calling this resolved for now, but I'm taking it easy until I get a new set of end clutches and then shortly I think I will invest in a transmission cooler and shift kit because this has reminded me just how much I hate working on transmissions.
