At what point does the stock 2g turbo throttle body become a restriction? Is it good to say 300 rwhp and then should be changed? Is it really true the biggest benefit is throttle response and maybe a 2 or 3 horsepower gain? Very curious as i'm considering changing mine out when i do the upper intercooling piping.

theres no rear wheel eclipse, I wouldnt consider spending alot of money into it, however, I am consider to swap a 1g throttle body to my 2g IM with some porting. Only thing is that I am not able to professionally port myself.

the 1g eclipse tb are like 20 bucks on ebay thats a very good bang for the buck considering it is about 8mm larger.

I've seen DSMs that have dynoed over 300AW/FWHP. Personally, if I'm going to change the IM will be when I change teh TB. If not, I belive the stock will suffice for goals around those numbers, depending on other mods of course.

Correct...my bad on the rear wheel...

I dynoed 325 on a Mustang Dyno which reads 15-20% low with my 2g TB.

Also with my 1G TB I can see nearly the same airflow at 50% as WOT...so how much of a restriction is it really?

Iono you tell me, im still debating on whether to just replace the gaskets on my 2g tb or just swap over to 1g tb with porting work? is it worth it? did you feel any noticable gains? I mean it is 8mm bigger?

This is more with respect to IM flow, but anyway...

Here's a thread that shows flowbench results for various intakes and valve lift. You can flow a helluva lot more with a better IM.

And aren't the 1g IM runners larger than the 2g head intake ports? If so, you'd have to port the 2g head, but you have to make sure each cylinder flows the same.

Just my $.02

I'm thinking the throttlebody is not worth it. I'll just stick to the intercooler piping.....

The 1G TB is well worth the $40 and very easy to install. Why would anyone question a cheap easy mod like this.

Because i haven't seen any hard facts that it does anything. If i don't have to waste $40 i'll gladly keep it in my wallet. I still haven't seen any real proof that shows the throttle body upgrade does anything. Just because it's bigger doesn't mean it's better.

well I had a question, Im about to do my 1g tb swap on my 2g. What exactly do I need?
I have the 1 g tb, 1g gaskets both inner and outer, Im removing my intake manifold so I can replace gasket and send it over to rre for the porting work. My 2g tb elbow will fit the 1g tb right? Also I asked rre to port the elbow and they said its too thin to be ported, so what should I do? just keep the tb elbow the way it is?

And guys, the only reason im doing this swap is because I know its leaking around the im area, I just wanted a little more go for a little cash. I paid 20 bucks for the 1g tb. I had to remove my stock one anyway, so why not just replace it with this one? Great mod to do if your removing ## stock tb,im.

Sometimes you don't need hard facts just the seat of your pants. I noticed a difference right away in the midrange power and throttle response. Unless you get some head work done and slap on a SMIM you won't necessarily feel or see much increase in top end power.

Even though you can't open up the whole elbow you can still match the flange to the TB opening. Just port the edge gradually till it matches.

The 1g TB swap is definately worth the $40 investment. I did not gain any noticable airflow (read from dsmlink) during WOT, but I did gain noticeable low and midrange power. Boost comes on a little quicker and throttle response is more crisp.

I was making around 300 hp when I made the swap.

i didnt notice any horsepower gains when i had my throttle body ported out just better throttle response which made me feel like i had better control over the car but then again i dont now if its different with turbo cars when it comes to boring out throttle bodies

If i can find one for under $40, i'd give it a shot. Anyone have dyno before and after numbers on these?

That is a non-turbo throttle body. It looks like the "throttle body elbow" is part of the throttle body. I would stick with the turbo throttle body's to avoid any complications:

Keep in mind that all the sensors are interchangeable except the TPS. The 2g TPS has an internal idle switch. You need to remove the external 1g idle switch (sometimes called a throttle stop) and install a 2g TPS.

Check on dsmtrader and other dsm forum classifieds. Thats where I found mine for $40. You can save money if you find one without sensors or you can sell the sensors that come with the TB (ISC's are always in demand).
