at 10lb of boost the needle drops all the way down

It's going to be a horrible next week for you with no boost..The stock turbo on a 2g is a t25..But you could upgrade to a 14b from a 1g..Or keep it stock with another t25..You should be able to find one on craigslist or in the classifieds section here on tuners..

Its probably just a boost leak and not a blown turbo..You didn't say anything about it smoking..You could always take the snorkel off the turbo and try to wigle the shaft..That will give you a pretty good idea about the condition of the turbo..

I was at a local salvage yard, well kind of a salvage yard, they sold cars there too..Anyway was at this place a couple years ago looking to see if they had another turbo for my car..All of the 1g turbo's were all gone, but they had one that came off a 2g they said..Well I picked it up to look at it and sure as shit it said Garret on it..Had the mits flanges and everything, at least that I remember it did..It was over 4 years ago.

It very well could have been aftermarket, but they were a salvage yard so all they knew was it game off a 2g..

It seems like every t25 i've seen since doesn't say Garret on it..I just googled the t25 form a 2g to make sure I wasn't seeing things years ago..And every t25 that showed up did not say Garret on it..The aftermarket ones did tho..

That's weird I just said Garrett because mine says it on it and I'm 99% sure it's the stocker LOL.

Piper said there all Garret..But maybe some say it and some don't I'm going to ask Justin..

Where on the turbo does it say Garett?

When I changed my intake I could see that it said Garrett right on it. I think its called compressor housing? I'm not sure this is my first boosted car I'm still learning every day. :D

I'd love to get a pic of that..I didn't see it when I looked at your profile..Justin said to his knowlage no t25 turbo's had Garett on the housing..So maybe there aftermarket. But why would you go with an aftermarket stock turbo..Weird..

If it's not raining tomorrow I'll go out and take off my intake and take a pic.

I take back what I said I was completely wrong. I just found a pic of my turbo and it doesn't say it on the housing. I am positive I read Garrett on it though. I will be going out tomorrow to find out where it says it because now I need to know. LOL.

Ahh thank you..Like I said I brought up the pic of your turbo in your gallery, but I didn't see Garett..

Ohh BTW if you still have those clamps you undo with a pliers I would swap them out for the nut style clamps. The last time when I pulled my turbo off I redid all of mine with those cause the old clamp started to leak..

No problem at all, it gives me an excuse to get under the hood. I changed some of the clamps and I know I need to change them all and probably the hoses but I figured I'd wait till I get a boost leak tester. (never done one)

I've never done a blt either..It's always been me forgetting to tighten up a clamp on an ic pipe..Never anything serious..

I changed all my hoses too recently..Some had wear, so I got a foot of hose at an auto parts store for like 1.50 and replaced a couple lines, along with all new clamps..

Yeah, I don't think I have any big leaks but I'm sure there are some. That sounds good I'll probably do that once I put everything back on my car and get a blt. I'm 100% stock except for the 3"catback right now because I've been trying to smog.

Okay, well here are the pictures I said I would take. It is a Garrett turbo but it didn't say it on the housing like I thought.

I found these numbers in another thread and it got me thinking.

Turbocharger for '97 (2G) Eclipse GSX MT:
T25, A/R: 0.49

Mitsubishi PN: MR187909 (MT)
Mitsubishi assembly #: 12500A

Manufacturer: Garrett (for Mitsubishi)
Garrett Turbo Family: TB2566
Garrett Original PN: 466491-0005
Garrett Aftermarket PN: 466491-5005S
Garrett CHRA PN: 431876-0059
Garrett Service kit PN: 709143-0001

I thought my turbo was stock and never replaced. My car has 130k and the turbo has little to no shaftplay, but I realized from the numbers mine has a Garrett Aftermarket PN: 466491-5005S. Is there any difference on this one or does it mean mine has been replaced? or nothing at all?

Nothing at all. :thumb:

Just to reiterate, I don't think any Garret T25's for the DSM ever had Garret on the compressor cover. However, like the picture above, it will say Garret on the CHRA.

Awesome, thank you. Idk why I thought it was on the compressor housing, I think I've just been looking at too many pics of other people turbos. LOL.
