Getting ready to put in my rotating assy. What bolts should get locktite?


I have red and blue loctite and some clear "thread" sealer for the water pump.

Anyways on the short block, what stuff needs it? Looking at putting in my crank, front case, rods w/pistons, rear main etc tonight.
 
Is your pistons on the rods? Are the rings clearanced already? You need a bunch of tools. I would take it somewhere if you dont have them
 
Ring filer, torque wrench, plastigauge, ring compressor, micrometer, dial bore gauge, various lubricants. If you havent built one before, and dont have the tools, its im possible. If you have the tools, i still say itll be hard to do accurately. There are always things you end up missing when its your first time. Just like anything. Very few people in history can say when they did something for the first time, it was flawless. Ill except nothing less for my motor. Thats why im not building it.

Now if i had someone to hold my hand through it that has built 4g63/4 before, than yea, lets get at it. Otherwise, ill take it to a pro who has built motors for 50 yrs.
 
I had the rings clearanced, rods balanced, block bored, and cleaned, etc etc. I am just doing the actually assembly. I ended up loctite-ing the rods and mains. Used a very small ammount just for my own peace of mind. Put the shit together was rather easy one I got my piston ring compressor unjammed and cleaned. Spring on it was rusted solid.

I looked at several videos on how to plastigage and how to install pistons with a compressor etc.

I have been doing basic maintenance for 13 years now, and been pulling and rebuilding engines for 4. Not a 20+ year guy yet. My stepdad was automotivly inclined and taught me a lot of stuff/ had me helping him with my mom's stang when I was 10. And yes, I have a full set of craft's men handtools, craftsmen clickstyle torque wrench etc. I just need to get new airtools.
 
Lol been a tech now for the past 13 years got all the tools mentioned above except the dial bore guage,i have built or i should say rebuilt a couple 4g63's in my time,i am about ready to have my block prepped by jacksons machine shop,but i will be doing all assembling except for the cylinder head.

If torqued properly, there is no risk of the bolts or nuts backing out unless you've re-used a TTY fastener. Under NO circumstances do you want to use loctite on rods and mains! Proper torque is dependent on using the right type of lubricant on the threads and under the heads of the bolts or nuts. Failure to use the correct lubricant will not allow the fastener to be properly stretched which will lead to premature failure. For stock fasteners you use 30wt oil. Most aftermarket bolts require a moly based lubricant.
