Hey there.

I just have one quick question:

In order to install ARP headstuds on my 1g 6bolt head and block, would I need to take anything else off except valve cover? I plan on replacing the stock bolts one at a time.

Please let me know!

Thanks!

You have to take the head off and do it properly or you will not get a good seal. Take the head all the way off and use an mls head gasket. Clean the surfaces with a razor blade, use permatex high tach spray and let it sit on the gasket for a few minutes. Torque the head down to spec. Warm the engine up completly, turn it off. RE-torque the head studs. You cannot just do them one at a time. Once you release the tension on the gasket it looses it's seal, as well you can warp the head if you don't take it off correctly or torque it correctly.
VFAQ Site - Visual Frequently Answered Questions will help you with torque specs and sequences. Also make sure you reset your timing correctly. This is a big job, and difficult but do it correctly and it will save you lots of money in the long run.

Many guys including myself have installed ARP's without removing the head. Just do one at a time following the proper sequence. Torque each one to it's final value before moving on the next. Put the washers in place (using the "slide it down the screwdriver technique") before installing the stud.

The stock composite head gasket with ARP's can handle good power/boost as long as the tune is good.

Regarding your original question, you do not need to remove anything other than the valve cover for this.

Cool have fun and let me know how it goes. Sounds like your set up will be pretty similar to mine once i get this damned thing off jack stands, except i'll be running pump 94. Do you have a fmic because you are going to loose alot of effeciency with the smic, look at a supra smic or fmic.

obviously not the better way to go, but it is POSSIBLE to proceed this way for installing the arp studs. I'll suggest you to remove/install new ones , one at the time with the engine fully cold. This will help prevent any unwanted movement of the head, and will let the oil to get down in the pan the mostly possible. Remember that there's should be the less possible amount of oil in the block stud holes
