I have some ARP head studs and cometic head gasket that I'm going to be installing in a couple weeks. What else should get done (replaced, cleaned, installed, lubricated, etc) at the same time?

Thanks in advance!

Does the exhaust manifold have to come off to install head studs? Because I have a 2g exhaust manifold I've been meaning to install as well.

With the Cometic HG, make sure the head and block decks are perfectly smooth.

I would suggest that you leave the Cometic HG on the shelf untill you do a full build for 500 hp +

The Felpro composite has been proven time and again in builds in the 500hp mark

Depends on what you are trying to do. What your goals are for the car? Why are you pulling the head? How many miles on the engine or head?

110K miles on the car currently, timing belt and pump replaced at 90K.

All the install instructions I've found indicate that the head has to come off to properly install the head studs and get a good seal.

+1 on taking car of the preventative maintenance if not done recently. If you are going to be removing the head then might as well install your 2g manifold. Removing a head is much easier/safer with out the extra weight of the manifolds attached to it.

edit: just noticed previous post. Just inspect maintenance parts for abnormal wear and tear....

I would suggest, at a minimum you replace the valve seals and valve springs. I install mainly BC1100 with stock retainers.

If you are using the cosmetic gasket make sure the head and block surfaces are almost a mirror finish, also u said you replaced the timing belt and water pump not long ago but what about all the other timing components like tensioner pulleys sprockets ect. An also I would do the oil port mod, valve seals, revised lifters, also take your head to a local machine shop to make sure it isn't warped at all an dosnt need resurfaced or if you have a straight edge and feeler gauged you can check it your self, and check out your cams and the rest of your valve train for excessive wear. An ya it would probably be a good time to do your manifold also
