Arp head bolt/thread chase

Going to install arp head bolts in my 97, do I really need to chase or tap the holes? The m11X1.25 tap is what I assume I need.

Chasing threads is the preferred method for threads. It cleans them without removing metal as a tap does. But if a tap is what you have use it but make sure you use lube on it.

Just be easy on it and if it feels like your threading it, go get a chase instead.

Is m11X1.25 the correct size to tap threads in the block ?

That is what I used for my 97 block. Worked fine.

do not use a tap!! chase the threads!!

take a old head bolt and cut 3 slots 90* across the threads with a cut off wheel or a hacksaw.

taps have diffrent depts of cuts, you can end up thinning the threads and making them weaker

I understood what he meant by making my own using the old bolts. As far as the cuts I am assuming you just mean making straight slits down the length on the bolt on 3 sides ?
