are these cracks in my transfer case OK

I was under my car, and noticed quite a few spider cracks in the rear sections of my transfer case. I was wondering if it is OK. Also does this look like a junkyard number on it. It is obviously a different color, so I would guess that the parts were put in at a different time. Please feel free to correct me, as I realy know nothing about these parts.

Are those cracks, or just cold-shut from the aluminum casting? Seems like they'd be weeping if they wre cracks.

I have no clue, I am pretty worried about them. But I really don't know anything about the casting or molding process.

Well, because it's so clean, I'll say they aren't cracks.

You'll get surface artifacts like that on castings depending on the temperature of the mold and exactly how the molten metal finds its way into the mold. In applications like this, it has no effect on the part's strength.

I've got the same "cracks" - although my entire Transfer case is Aluminum castings - The front casting on yours looks like Cast Iron = Interesting - mine is lghter - Yours is stronger.
