2G Anything else to do the head gasket?

So I’m getting everything in this week to do the head gasket on my 97 tsi. So far I got L19 head studs, cometic mls headgasket, acl oil pump, all the timing components and water pump.
I have the oem valve cover gasket half moon, I take gasket, exhaust gasket, etc coming. Anything else I’m missing? Anything else I should replace while everything is apart? Upgrade anything?

You will likely need new placement dowels and now would be the time to install fresh exhaust studs. I assume the head is going to machine shop.

Yes going to get decked, ported and polished

Does the shop know what kind of finish is needed for MLS and have the equipment to do it? Measure the head height or have it measured, make sure they're not taking off too much. Many of our heads have been decked a time or two already

The heads never been decked, and this guys has done a lot of dsms

Put a machinist straight edge and check the block. They’re usually at least .002” low in the middle.

Read up on the L19 material the headstuds are made of so that you don’t ruin them.

I’ve used them before on my built sti, before I went to 14mm head studs
