anyone ever bolt a muffler straight to the o2 housing?

DSM-onster (wiseman) has done an 02 open exhaust dump, he liked it apparantly.

Yeah, 135th-143rd is just simply amazing for tuning runs. I used to live 100 yards from the corner. The cops around there hide in the forest preserve parking lots, but that particular stretch is 1 mile of dragstrip. They would have to nail you directly in an opposing lane or behind you. I used to use the hills between those stretches to cover my front and rear from any long range lasers or radar. Good enough for a quick 3rd gear WOT pull

Now, I pretty much got my wings clipped. Carol stream (across from Glendale Heights)has the highest percentage of traffic police in the country. Its so bad they line up 2-3 patrol cars deep in a parking lot, then pull out all together and nail everybody in one hit. Completely insane, never seen something like that before. I do my tuning runs between their speed traps, but they are pretty shifty. They usually mix it up enough to throw you off and they just seem to be everywhere right when you want to do a quick little WOT pull.

bet you used to think palos and worth were bad. Sounds pretty rough out there, i'm in tinley and there are quite a few open tuning strips

Even a cutout would be tricky where I live as the cops are situated in-between where I tune. This is why I still run an internal wastegate & 3" Thermal catback & extra Borla 5" muffler welded in the midpipe for maximum quietness. I like my cars quiet. I honestly can't see a well designed 3" exhaust system causing any measurable power restriction on a 16g car.

I don't have any problems with a full 3in exhaust either, not for my power goals at least. It was all just a thought that came into my head after thinking about putting a muffler on the downpipe.

And the thing about this setup that would be even better than the minimal performance gain would be the price; as it's hard to find a good priced 3in exhaust for a fwd 1g.

Dejon powerhouse.com has a 3" aluminized catback system with Ultraflow muffler for $348 for a 1g FWD. I suppose you could fit a 3" muffler to the end of the downpipe and just buy some 3" bends and a 3" straight section and side dump in front of the rear wheel. That would be pretty easy and fairly cheap.
