Any in house made intakes?

I have been looking for a hard pipe air intake to go with my k&n filter for quite some time now. I see these big name brands, dejon, injen, etc. But with the big brands comes a big price tag. So I was wondering if there was anyone on this website that you guys know of, that make their own intakes. Money is tight, and the only guy I have found that makes them, no longer does. Let me know what you guys know.

Thanks in advance :D

If you can't afford to properly modify the car, then don't half-ass it. This is advice coming from someone who did half-ass it at first (college working min wage job), and ended up paying for parts twice... once for the cheap way, and once for the correct, RELIABLE way.

Best way to mod on a budget is to buy quality used parts.

^This. All the way.

I don't make much money, and I have a mortgage to pay. But I only buy top of the line parts for my cars regardless and both my DSM's have always been good to me.

So what do you guys recommend I do. When i bought this car my plan was to use the ebay 16g that came on it till it died, put a vrsf fmic, harp pipe the intake, full 3 inch exhaust w/ ported exhaust mani, 190 fuel pump, put the nessasary guages in, and thats about all I can think of. I never planned on injectors, but from what I have heard from all my threads, I will probably get them. My goal was to between 300 and 350 awhp. Oh, and I was gonna turn the boost up to 15-18 psi. Still undecided on tuning.

Sounds good but you need to switch up the order.

Gauges first
Exhaust components (after turbo)
ECMlink or a way to tune (necessary before moving on)
Injectors and Fuel Pump
Intake pipe
Turbo, FMIC, BOV, and Exhaust Manifold.

Do that. BTW we are shooting for the same goal so if you want some pointers just read my parts list on my build here: My build journal 1997 Eclipse GSX

The only thing is I would recommend upgrading your fuel before your turbo, unlike my build where I am doing it after. Some turbo's don't like to stay at wastegate pressure so it's good to have the fuel done first. I have multiple cars so I can afford to wait for fuel mods if that is the case and I am tired of my Evo III 16g sitting on my shelf staring at me.

Here's what I'd do, in this order.

-Boost gauge (pay the money for a good mechanical instead of a crappy electric) ~$30 used
-Wideband o2 sensor and gauge (I like the LC-1) $200 new / got mine for $100 used.
-SAFC 2 (no need to go fancier for approx 300whp) ~ $100 used ---- or just bite the bullet and get ECMLink.
-Logger (I'm not well versed in the options for 1gs right now). ???

This gets you set up for mods.
-Used Evo 9 fuel pump. Flows more than a Walbro 190, quiet, and OEM reliable. ~$40 used.
-Rewire the fuel pump for steadier voltage. ~$15
-Evo 560cc injectors (~$100), 2g MAF (~$40), and intake (~$50 used)
-VRSF FMIC is a good choice. I like mine. (Look for a low mileage part out for a good deal, or just go new)
-Exhaust (I have no brand preference. I went DIY) ???
-Exhaust pt 2. -- 2g Exhaust manifold and o2 housing. -- $40 for mani and $20 for o2 housing

I suggest the exhaust last because the stock exhaust will help fight boost spikes and creep until you get everything else done.

That doesn't include things like a MBC, gaskets, air filter, etc.

At least that's a ball park idea.

With te mods that I listed, and you guys recommended, do you think a safc is all I need?

With someone on a tight budget and not too familiar with these cars absolutely. Its probably the easiest tuning device and a great starting point.

Follow what knochgoon24 suggested and you should be fine.

You can save money and hold out on the FMIC just clean out your SMIC.

I fabbed my own along with the intercooler piping. PM me if you need any help in your venture. They aren't hard to make. :thumb:

That means ebay..But I dont think they ever made them for 1g(silicon intakes). But i'm probably wrong.

They also went up to about 60$ this year.

There not specific to the car, its a website and a local company in colorado that sells any piping, couplers, an fittings lines, all kinds of things

This is all youd need minus getting the bov recirculation tube, and clamps, then a 4" straight coupler if you wanted to use factory maf

Bending Reducer
Aluminum Pipe

So this set up will work for a a factory 1G maf without bov recirc? Do you need a coupler to go from the maf to the 4" aluminum pipe as well?

That is a pretty nasty set up you have there. What did you use to make your intake?

It looks like I could piece together something from the website you guys gave me. But could you give me some specs on all the piping. Like how big the turbo inlet is, how big the pipe is when it attatches to the stock Maf. And any other specs I might need.

Can someone please tell me the trbo inlet diameter on a 16g both big and small, and the pipe diameter where it hooks up to the stock 1g maf.

2.25 on both turbos, 3.75 on the maf.

oh shit forgot you are on 1g maf not sure if the same? 3.75 is the 2g maf outlet to pipe.

2.25 on turbo, 3.25 on Maf. Youd need from the turbo to Maf in this order 2.25 to 3-3.5 45' coupler, 3-3.5 45' aluminum pipe and a 3-3.5 straight coupler. Or if you wanted to upgrade to a 2g Maf I'd do 2.25 to 4 45' coupler, 4 aluminum pipe, and a straight 4 coupler

The 1g MAF also has a circular outlet while the 2g is an oval.
Yeah im not very good with elliptical vs. circular calculations, all i know is the 3-3/4" coupler fits the 2g maf outlet like a glove, and apparently the 3-1/4" coupler fits the 1g maf well. So it seems little smaller, how much of that is diameter vs. true area, you got me there.
