Any in house made intakes?

I have been looking for a hard pipe air intake to go with my k&n filter for quite some time now. I see these big name brands, dejon, injen, etc. But with the big brands comes a big price tag. So I was wondering if there was anyone on this website that you guys know of, that make their own intakes. Money is tight, and the only guy I have found that makes them, no longer does. Let me know what you guys know.

What is wrong with buying and aluminum pipe, and some reducers? Is that doing it the wrong way?

Did you read my post? It should work can't see why not plus once you upgrade to a 2g maf all you have to do is change the coupler.

Trust me when I say its all alot easier then you think. Things most of the time seem harder when you reading about it. Once you get in there and start doing you realize "Oh was this the big deal"
 
Correct me if I'm wrong but couldnt he do something like this.
This intake:

And then once he changes to a 2g maf he just has to change the coupler.

84$? And you can get the same filter and a maf adapter at the parts store for less than half that. Then with the coupler almost 130$ then buy another one? He could just buy the expensive intake piping that he is trying to avoid fir that price
 
I have a hand made intake pipe. I can't take credit for making it, but I will say I like this one more than any other I seen. It has a story behind it, and it's always good to show off your work or other peoples. I would have it any other way. I can weld, doesn't look like there is to much into making one. I am sure there is a DIY somewhere or various other ways to search this on Google. I have done it myself in the past.

Thats just one i pulled up quick for an example mostly for the pipe not the maf adapter and especially not for the filter. I know he can find one used for way cheaper and the coupler. And the one sold by dejon with all the bells and whistles (VC,CC, Recirt tubes) is 160+shipping.

Just gave example but he can piece it together.

Don't expect a reliable and quick car if you aren't going to spend money. Don't cut corners, I know everyone wants to go fast and go fast now, but it isn't worth trashing the motor. Piece it all together. My first build on one of my own cars took me 3 years to hit 400hp. And that was with a V8 platform. The piece of mind know that they car is finished PROPERLY and will work the way you need it to is worth it in the end. I am no DSM God, but I've had my fair share of other projects and this fits into any situation regardless of the car. Save, save, save. Good luck on your build and post some pictures of that intake! :D

Yeah its right, when people say do it right and dont cheap out they are talking about other parts eg: turbos, afpr, BC, FP, parts that have actual moving parts. Those parts dont cheap out on and buy "chinese". You are talking about an intake pipe here. I am trying to set you up so you can upgrade later to a 2g MAF if that is the path you choose to go. Also go to the classifieds on here or even craigslist in your area someone is always selling an intake. (just make sure you use paypal and the person has good reviews)

I did 2g maf upgrade back when I had a 1g and you are going to love it. Especially with you HP goals its all your going to need.

Like I said before once you start actually working on the car you will start to realize and understand what everyone is talking about. And this is probably the least complicated thing you are going to do on your car. You will be fine good luck and welcome to the DSM world you will love it and hate it all at the same time.

There is a difference between "cheap" and "inexpensive". There is nothing wrong with using inexpensive parts, as long as they aren't "cheap". ;)

And that applies to any part, not just the moving ones. You should put the same consideration into electrical tape and fasteners as you do a turbo or main bearings.

Agree

Cheap = Low quality
A used inexpenive part is better then a new low quality part.

Even something like a coupler get a good one. Use your best judgement of when you can skimp on a part.

^ +1. Very well put. I've bought many used parts, but they were all good quality. A dollar saves a dollar, just no cutting corners! :thumb:
