the anti lock lite came on(91 talon tsi),what does this mean-im thinking brakes.I cant find my manual at this time.also what does the power/economy button do(auto trans)?

You need a analog meter to test the ABS for codes, it could be one of the sensors, ABS ECM, or the ABS unit. If the light comes on when the car starts to move than most likely it's one of the sensors.

thanx for the info but I want an exact answer...you gave me a salesmen answer as if you wanted me to buy something.when I hit that button what exactly does it do to the motor?
It's suppose to be more agressive shifts and it allows it to shift at a higher rpm.

the power economy i believe is to turn the overdrive on and off on your automatic trans. when the anti lock light is on it means that something is wrong with your abs system. when the light is on your abs system is disabled.

There is an overdrive on/off switch on the horse #### shift handle. The power/econ switch is to change the shift points. Though when I had my A/T AWD it never made a damn bit of difference in gas mileage.

The ABS setup on the 1G is sad. I ended up removing it from my Laser because I would track one problem down and another would pop up. Plus the fact that the ABS wheel sensors were over $100 each and a relay that I had a problem with on the ABS pump was well over $200. It was just a simple relay too.

As for the ABS light, that could be anything. Could be that your wheel sensors need adjustment or replaced. A shop manual has all the info on how to test and diagnose the ABS system.

IS the ABS pump under the hood still running when you shut the car off?
my fault, i should have just not posted anything on the power/econ switch since i have never owned an auto dsm. electrical tape over the abs light will solve your problem:D . seriously if you don't care if you have abs or not you can just pull the abs relay to make sure it is not functioning, but the light will stay on. on other cars i have worked on i've seen a malfuntioning abs system completely disable all braking resulting in an accident. this is why i say remove the relay or the abs fuse to completely disable the abs system or you could have problems down the road.

The answer to your AntiLock light is probably related to a poor ground (as it states in the owners manual). My ABS light ocasionally comes on from time to time but the solution is to turn the car off and back on...Then the light goes a away for a few months. Take an ohm meter and check your ground wires and bat. terminals. Im sure you will find they are full of gunk and simply cleaning them should do the trick.
