I have a stock 98 talon 420a na with a intake and don't want to spend all my money until i get something with a 4g63 and awd but i cant stand being slow so i want some quick hp until i find a co-signer for a turbo dsm, so that leads me to nitrous and i know some frown on nitrous but was wondering what i should buy for my car before i install nitrous i already am installing headers and exhaust and new racing clutch and also need to know what kind of shot i could run my car has 96k on it.

what would a compression test tell me

It would tell you if your motor is capable and healty enough to take the nitrous. It really isn't a must, but a recommendation. Oh, and ^^^ post, was no help at all. Who doesn't want a 99 GSX? But where did you get that from, nowhere in the post was there anything about a 99GSX.

What good be good numbers when i do the compression test.

So do you think any numbers under 180 aren't good?

Uhm... Chill! :shhh:

So....what would be good numbers for nitrous

(cough....i want a gsx....cough)

The standard compression for a 420A Motor is 170-225 psi so use that as your limit. Service limit is 100psi. And I seriously wouldn't use any sort of forced induction if I was lower then 170...

Yes, Upgrade to a Walbro 255lph fuel pump... And atleast New OEM Injectors just to make sure you get the perfect fuel mixture.

Also remember to run cold plugs. None of that Iridium crap... You run a hot plug, it will break inside your combustion chamber eventually... and... then you wont have a use for n2o

Yes i forgot to say colder plugs i was reading about that what kind on ngk plugs should i use..were could i get new stock injectors

1st of all don't run a walbro 255 pump without a fuel pressure regulator. If you decide to go the nitrous route, send your injectors to RC Engineering to be cleaned, tested, and balanced (they do awsome work, search for them on google). DEF. get a wet shot. I'd say that a 50 to 75 is a good reccomendation as well. The nitrous will be alot happier if you have opened up your intake and exhaust as much as you can; ( ie cold air intake, K&N filter, header, high flow cat, and a cat back exhaust). I'd reccommend something in the 2 1/2" size, possibly look at a cat back made for a gs-t. I have used ZEX brand nitrous with good results on my previous gs-t and it made a noticable difference. Don't forget to order the bottle warmer as well, not enough pressure in the bottle makes the nitrous seem like it isn't working like it should. Oh and one other thing, don't expect the nitrous hit to be like it is shown on tv show's, light's don't suddenly get blurry and you get thrown back into you seat, not off my 50 shot it didn't anyway ;) I didn't abuse my car with the nitrous, it was just there for some fun. I was on a 50 shot, but I was already turbo so not really a good comparision. Good luch with your decision and keep us posted as to your progress. BTW I ride dirtbike up in shamokin, Those coal hills are hellish

Wow thats some good advice...Do you know were i can get a full exhaust system at a decent price I've been looking for about a week now and still cant find anything good? And are ebay systems junk?(headers and exhaust)

plus one about the the walbro 255 w/ the stock fpr on the 420a.

Ebay short ram Intake: $50
Tusdo N1 Catback Exhaust (off ebay): $220
Walbro 255 fuel pump: $100
Zex Nitrous Kit 55-75 shot(it only comes as a wet kit for this car):$550-600
NGK Standard BKR7ES plugs (one range colder): $8

Thats what I would buy if I wanted to run nitrous on the minimum amount of cash, some might sub in the GST exhaust instead, however I would want the look and sound of the N1.

secondary list would look like
Megan racing headers $150-200
Airfuel ratio gauge $40
nitrous pressure gauge $??? (I know they are pricey)
Purge kit $100
highflow cat/test pipe :$100/$40

As you can see you can spend pretty much as much as you want building this car. how much are you planning on spending on the GSX (to purchase)? And how soon until you can find a co-signer

Im hoping to find a co-signer quickly but i might have found a buy here pay here in new jersey. Thanks on the info ill start buy all the stuff i need.

FPR on an N/A is alot weaker, allowing more fuel into the return line and the pressure low enough to run passably (but not perfectly).

On a turbo the FPR is alot stronger, causing higher pressure, overruning the FPR, and making the injectors "squirt" more than they're supposed to.

I would still get an aftermarket adjustable FPR since you really don't know what pressure your fuel system is, even if it's not as bad as with a turbo FPR.

Hmmm...i read in a few places that the 420a stock fpr are a lot better then the turbo ones i must be mistaken then.

Sorry, "weaker" and "better" don't really describe well. Maybe "better suited for" is right. In this case the N/A FPR is "better suited for" the 255 pump than the turbo FPR. But it's still not perfect, and you still don't know what your fuel pressure is after the pump install, so I still advocate an AFPR. :)

Or you could just install an inline FP Gauge... I'd listen to BigRand on this... I agree ten fold and those are the plugs I was going to sugjest. I'll have a big shot of NOS on my built engine... but I hardly doubt I'll ever use it... More like a show off thing... ya know... (opens the hatch and says "check out what I got!" ohh yeah!)

"We got a nosssss fogger system and a t3 turbo, dom... I see an AIC Controller, Its got, direct port nitrous injection..."

"Yeah and a stand alone fuel management system, not a bad away to spend 10k dolors!"

So guys, am I worthy?

Don't need to upgrade the FPR when installing a 255 pump. Only reason to ditch the stock FPR IMO would be if you were going with an SFMU setup or better for a turbo install.
