I have a 3D UI Android OS 3G WiFi 6.2" HD Head Unit DVB-T GPS Car DVD Player Bluetooth FM laying around from a durango i had scraped i was woundering if anyone has had any succuses in using one of these as a logger and maybe even running dsmlink I have done a search and returned nothing other than some dead threads with no solid answers just wounder if the processor and ui is fast enough to keep up or even compatible

behind my monitor im shaking my head and giving up i will post video when its done maybe it just has to be visual for you to under stand.... this is completely possible and plausible to do for under 700 with out a mac

Thank you. There are much better ways to do what OP is wanting than using a mac mini.

So what your saying is that your absolutely stuck on using the head unit thats in the car now, correct?

If so more power to you, i have a dvd head unit in my car now and thought about doing the same thing. I've done the research(evident by the links and prices i've posted) and it just doesnt seem feasible or cost efficient. Which lead me to the mac mini.

If your talking about using that $500 pos, then i have to ask why? It's very limited. Slow outdated hardware. Plus whats os does it use? Could you even run link on it? Even if it did its still over double the cost of a mac mini set up.

Thank you. There are much better ways to do what OP is wanting than using a mac mini.

Please explain how so? You guys keep saying that buy have no reasons why.

Spending more money just to use the head unit thats already installed make no sense.

You dont need any adapters, you dont "need" a power supply. Please explain your reasoning to all these way better ways please, otherwise quit posting useless hearsay and empty opinions.

Here is the spec's to what you call my "pos" it runs a Ubuntu variant witch once again is native to dsm link v3

The latest product from Vic Ltd., the Navisurfer II is a double-DIN (so it takes up two car audio head units) in-car entertainment system that packs an entire PC into the dashboard, powered by the popular open-source Ubuntu Linux distribution.

Based on a Celeron M low-power processor running at 1.3GHz and with 250GB of storage for movies and music, the Navisurfer is an impressive device in its own right - but the addition of a GPS receiver and 3G HSDPA mobile broadband modem.

Using the mobile broadband connection and the GPS receiver, it's possible to browse the Internet while in your car, download traffic updates for the in-built navigation software, and even access services such as Google Maps and Facebook Places without needing a separate device.

As with any top-end in-car entertainment system the Navisurfer II includes support for a reversing camera, which is displayed on the in-built 7in 800x480 touch-screen display that also acts as the main input device for the custom Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Remix installation supplied with the system as standard.

If you don't mind waiting as it's a pre order... . There is always this...
A bit more portable then something stuck in dash... .

Anyone with a 97+ or Evo or running a flashable ECU this would be a pretty good option for logging...

Anything Android/Linux based though and involving running Ecmlink is going to be a bit involved for most end users to setup.

But, can be made to work though it's a bit of a Hack on top of a hack on a hack... .
